My hair is actually somewhere between 3B and 3C. After watching the demo I decided to try this product. I first used it with another product and didn't notice anything great about it. My son said my hair didn't look as frizzy as before. I tried it again, sectioning off my hair into four parts and just using this product. I put about a quarter sized amount to each section. It does have a tight hold because of how much I used. I have used it three times, and my hair doesn't get frizzy. However, it also gets big and doesn't lay down.

My fine, color-treated hair loves this stuff. Best clumpy, long-lasting curls I've experienced so far. I use it on top of Curl Keeper, scrunch out excess moisture and clip. All I have to do is touch up daily with a tiny bit of leave-in conditioner, and I can go for 4 days without another cleansing routine. This does require a quality conditioner on the hair underneath, I can tell it would be too drying without that step. But I'm thrilled with the results.

I absolutely love this product! I just got it and I used it as a re activator on my 3rd day hair and let me tell you the curls were back like the first day I did my hair. I know people find the smell horrendous but I don't (mind you I am pregnant). A little does go a long way bc it is pretty thick you just need to rub it in the palms of your hands and apply. This stuff is gold!

This has a hideous scent, and it works only so well. I have not had much luck with it. Tried it with LI, gels, etc and still not doing much for the frizz and fuzz..... I will keep it to try in different climate situations, but for Memphis summer humidity, it is not on the list of keepers. (3A/3B)

This product is super tricky--and yes, I know that everyone says that, but it really is! You really do need to watch the amount you put in your hair, or your hair will look weighed down and greasy; however, once you play around with it and find that perfect amount, this really is a great product. My 3B curls that are about 3 inches above my tailbone looked great and they were really enhanced and shiny with about a quarter sized amount for my whole head! I had a little more frizz than I would like, but I've heard that pairing this with Curl Keeper is good, so I'll try that next. A little pricey, but you really don't need a lot, so it should last you a while.

I am so disappointed in this product, especially after reading all of the great reviews. I tried using a lot, using a little, over and under another product and still no improvement. This product is simply dreadful for my hair type. I have 3c/4a hair and this product left my hair sticky (when I used to much), dull, left a white cast on my hair and didn't really make my curls pop that much. I had such high hopes. If you have hair that's more on the kinky side, you may want to skip this. I think it's probably not meant for curlies past a 3a or 3b. I can't give this my stamp of approval.

I love love love this product!! It gives me nice definition and makes my curls feel really light. For me, it does tend to separate my strands but because my hair is so thick and naturally twists into big clumps, I love having a product on hand that helps break them up. I use this a lot in the summer when it's too hot for me to tolerate heavy clumps. 4 curls because even though I love it, it's a lot of money for one product. I look for it on the swap boards to save a few bucks.

I like the way the product worked on my curls, unfortunately when I read the label I was disappointed to see how much alcohol is AG products. While the chemical names can be confusing, a little on-line research gives you answers about what ingredients dry out your hair and make it more fragile. I threw my AG products, and many others, in the garbage and my hair is softer and stronger for it.

    love this stuff
it gives great curl definition and clumps hair beautifully!!
the only reason i didnt give it 5 curls was because it doesnt control frizz that well.
but as long as u apply a serum when it dries it works perfectly

I love this product- It provides me with frizz control, definition, clumps, and hold. I usually use a medium hold gel on top and normally don't use a leave-in when using it. I don't like too much crunch so tend to use creams more than hard hold gels. I have 2c/3a porous normal texture hair and live in a humid climate. In general, I prefer this in the high dews and don't like it as much in the moderate dews for some reason.

I have shoulder length, thick, slightly coarse 3a color-treated hair. I apply AG Re:Coil on wet hair after either a serum or protein, then leave-in conditioner. It sets my curls wonderfully. I can plop it and then dry for a few minutes with a diffuser for nicely defined but relatively tight curls. Or, for a looser curl, I apply first two layers, then section my hair and then finger through a small amount to each section then, sectioning again 4-5 pieces, I roll each one around my finger. It takes time but gives me a loose but defined curl that lasts. I notice though that the second day if I rinse and recondtion, then reapply AG Re:Coil I can get an itchy scalp from the build up. So a light touch is important. My hair needs lots of moisture and can handle 3 layers of product except for scalp build up.

I find that this product, helps with clumping and curl formation. I use a leave in, apply curl keeper(comb through with a wide tooth comb) then I use about a pea size amount of this on both sides of my hair and I scrunch it in, then I scrunch in about a dime size amount of gel over it and voila! Springy, defined, curls with awesome clumps. My hair does get crunchy once dry but its easily scrunched out to soft bouncy curls. Not sure if this product adds to the crunchyness due to the fact that I use 4 products in my hair routine, I'm sure all of them besides the leave in adds a bit of crunch :-) overall wonderful product one of my HG's.

I use about a quarter size amount of this after I applied my leave in and Deva Curl gel (my main defining product). It works great in this combination! I tried using it as my main defining product but it weighed my hair down too much. I'm not giving it 5 stars because I still love my Curls Rock (even though it's not CG friendly). But I know this is probably better for my hair so I will probably repurchase it. Love it's smell too!!

MIRACLE product! This stuff creates such soft-yet-defined curls in my fine, sparse, shoulder-length hair! I only have to use a small blob (in conjunction with a regular styling gel, for extra hold), which is nice because this stuff is so expensive. I used this on my mom's hair with great results, too; her hair strands are color-treated and very thick but her hair is sparse, though she has the same curl pattern as I do (3A), and the results I got with re:coil were far better than those she's gotten using any other product on her hair!

    Posted by sKorpio1190 (Type 3a) on 02/21/2013

I love this stuff. I can use it alone or with a tiny bit of gel for frizz. I have fine, low porosity hair that is easily weighed down so like many people say getting the right amount is tricky. Too much weighs my hair down but just the right amount and my hair looks great! A little really DOES go a long way

    Holy HG!!

My thick, color-treated hair is 2C on top and 3A/B on the rest, so finding products to suit my entire coif is a challenge to say the least. AG's Re:Coil Curl Activator does a superior job of of encouraging and supporting my curls and ensuring they last all week (much to my chagrin, I can only shampoo once a week) without drooping or frizzing in the least. It also seems that it helps protect my ends from the damage of a blow dryer...just an assumption. It smells pretty good, too.

I used Re:Coil Curl Activator when I lived in Florida AND now that I live in Nevada - totally opposite ends of the humidity spectrum - and it works equally as well no matter where I am. I use half the amount on the looser curls to prevent it from weighing them down as I do in the tighter ones. Be it known that it's not a product that creates any sort of hold, so, like so many other product junkies, this is only one ingredient in my cocktail arsenal, but a very important one nevertheless.

I put this is damp hair....it wasn't soaking wet or dry...I put this product on top of my leave in conditioner. This product dries hard...not really crunchy...if that makes sense? Anyway, when it was almost dry I just flipped my head upside down and scrunched out the hardness and the result was awesome! My hair feels sooo soft and each curl is well defined ...not crunchy or hard AT ALL ....minimum frizz too! My hair loves this product...I'm glad it's CG friendly too

My mother-in-law gave me a bottle of this when I went to visit my in-laws last summer and forgot my gel at home. At first I wasn't sure if I'd like it because I'm a gel kind of girl, not cream. The first time I used it I applied WAY too much and disliked the results. After she advised me on the right amount I re-washed, re-applied and fell in love!! This cream gives AMAZING separation, definition and hold! It resisted the humidity awesomely! I have 3A curls to the middle of my back and I use maybe a quarter sized amount on my WHOLE head, focusing on the ends. It works awesome if you air dry or diffuse! I would HIGHLY recommend this product!!

Great product! It separates and perks up waves and curls and gives me better second and even third day hair. You have to use it right, though--apply to damp hair, only use a small amount (with too much you'll get stringy curls), rub the product on your hands, and scrunch through curls. Also, you have to use gel or some other styling product over this, otherwise your hair will be puffy and undefined.

I really like how this gives my curls a little more curl. I only use a pea size amount so this will last me at least a yr. my routine is kinky curly knot today-curl keeper-this--then gel. I then diffuse and voila 3-4 day hair! Oh I do scrunch out some of the product w a tshirt b4 diffusing.

This stuff is like magic in a bottle. I have fine, limp, thinning, permed hair....yes permed. My curls have always looked natural but the past couple years I have struggled with some pretty awful perms and post-baby hair. The smell is clean, and not overwhelming (I am not a fan of strong smell...migraines). I tip my head upside down and scrunch my curls with a paper towel, then I smooth the balm in my palms and scrunch it into my curls. It coats my hair and gives me amazing curls again. My curls last for days, especially if I decide to put some effort into spraying my hair in the morning and re-scrunching. I am lazy, so a lot of times I go for the curls tied up on top of my head...I know, bad. I HATE doing my hair. I LOVE this balm because I don't have to.

It give me the great curl definition and great 2nd and 3rd day hair, and that's without really doing anything other than putting my hair up in a pineapple at night. I have 3a fine hair that has not been colored in the last 3 years. Recoil, in a very small amount, gives me curl definition, shine, volume and long-lasting style. I have tried many styling products and this one is kind to my scalp, keeps my curl, volume and shine throughout the day and is fairly economical, since I use less than a pea-size each morning. After a night's sleep, my curls are still vibrant and I have volume. I love this stuff!

I waited until I finished the entire tube before writing this to see if my results were consistent and I have to see this is definitely a holy grail product for me. I do not know my hair type, but I have several different curl patterns on my shoulder length curls. Tightly coiled spirals in the back and loose s shaped curls in the front. I apply this product after detangling and under a gel and it helps to clump and define my curls like no other products I've used. When I do not use this I usually end up with an undefined poofy mess on hands. I was skeptical at first because the bottle says for loose beachy waves but it does wonders defining my tighter curls! For me the price is not an issue because a little goes a long way. I section my hair into 4 and apply a nickel sized amount to each section. One tube lasted for about 3 months and I use it 1-2 times a week. This is definitely worth a try! (i get mine from ulta which has an excellent return policy if it doesn't work for you)

I LOVE this product!!!!!! It is the ultimate leave-in conditioner to prep my curls for gel. The fragrance is light and pleasabt. Alone, it works well in defining my curls but I like to put gel on top to eliminate frizz. I love that the 12oz comes in a pump! This product leaves my hair soft and very easy to detangle. It adds incredible shine. I will repurchase again and again!

My best curls ever are with Re:Coil! I smooth about a tablespoon into my short, 2c/3a curls, scrunch, and air dry. I get fantastic, bouncy curls with the perfect amount of definition and volume and moisture. I usually use it with just a little bit of a light leave-in conditioner underneath, but sometimes add a bit of CIAB on top, and it works well either way! I'm also planning to try it with CurlKeeper.

When used in combination with the Re:Curl spray, this product gives me masses of curls. They're wild, beachy curls, complete with some frizz, but they're also soft, and bouncy. When I use this cream and air dry, my hair takes a long, long time dry, and it dries crunchy. However, when I apply this cream on soaking wet hair, plop for a few minutes, diffuse for a few minutes and then spray the Re:Coil spray, my hair seems to bloom before my eyes. My hair hates low dew points, and I'm finding the Re:Coil products are really helping to perk up my hair and define my curls these days. Curl Activator and Re:Coil sprays are definite keepers for me; especially since I'm moving to the desert soon!

I'm kind of disappointed in this product. I have 3B curls and this does what it says in that my hair was big, fluffy, and soft. But I didn't get the hold I needed or the definition I expected. I like a little "crisp" that I can then soften with my hands, and my hair is so flyaway that I need precise definition and lots of hold. I found that using too much of AG Recoil made my hair seem kind of greasy, like I put body lotion in it. There was no curl formation in the underlayers, and while the top layers were curly, they were a little undefined and "heavy" looking. I had to use lots of hairspray to keep things under control. I recommend Tigi Curlesque Curls Rock Amplifier if you want a cream/lotion styler -- it makes my curls extremely defined but it's light enough that it doesn't weigh hair down or make it look greasy. But that being said, if you want fluffy, soft curls, go for the AG. It comes down to a matter of preference depending on what you like! I just don't like it enough to pay $18 for it.

I am a 2c with some areas of tiny curls and some with lazy waves, so I have been looking for a cream that helps perk up my waves a little bit more. I went to Ulta twice but they were always out of the 20oz bottle, so I decided to splurge and get the 32oz bottle and return it if I didn't like it. Well, I guess I won't be returning it after all! I don't even need to use gel after this; just a very very tiny amount of Kinky Curly Knot Today to detangle, AG Re:Coil, plop, diffuse, and ta da! Huge, defined waves with some actual curl forming in there! I'm glad I got the big bottle now

Re:coil is perfectly named for my hair...because my hair seems to recoil from its surroundings after I apply this cream! I have this in a pump bottle, and the directions say it's for "soft beachy waves". I was hoping I could use this to define, yet elongate my curls. Well, it defines them, for sure. I've never found a product that defines my hair like this one. With other products, some strands of my hair tend to gather naturally in bigger clumps, but Re:coil doesn't allow them to do this. Re:coil separates my hair into many thin strands, that literally coil up as I'm diffusing. I love the definition, and this truly accentuates individual curls. However, it makes me look like I've chopped a couple of inches off my hair, and it dries like a crispy Jhericurl. If I use less, to minimize the crispiness, I don't get the same definition, so this is one I use when I can plan ahead for The Scrunch. I don't mind my hair looking short from curls, as long as the curls are even and look styled, and Re:coil is excellent for getting the things under control. My hair is medium thickness 3a/3b, but Re:coil makes my longer hair into 3c, pencil-width curls. I like that this makes the shorter hair on my crown perk up, but, against its will, it doesn't stick up straight. I rated this 4 stars rather than 5 because of the crunch factor and the dry-time involved. Also, this is a product I can use around once a week because too much protein turns my hair into uneven, stringy dreadlocks. I find DevaCurl B'Leave-In to be similar to Re:coil, but B'Leave-In has way less crunch and adds more shine. For smoother, defined waves/curls B'Leave-In may be one to try, but if you like tighter, really defined curls, you may love Re:coil. Unfortunately, both have proteins, so I have to be careful how often I use them. I'm sure Re:coil is something I will use often and repurchase regularly. When it's finally set, dried, and scrunched, it gives me very fun, bouncy curls.

The first time I tried this I used it with Curl Junkie Curls in a Bottle. The results were stunning! BUT I've never gotten those results again, much to my chagrin. The second time I HATED the stuff, my ends felt like straw and I was convince it was just going to be an expensive cabinet-dweller. Well, I wasn't going to let the money go to waste so I tried it with a few different amounts and gels, both strong hold and loose hold. It was pretty clear the cream was having none of it. I trimmed my ends, though, and things perked up pretty quickly after that. Turns out a trim was all I needed. The ends of my shoulder-blade length hair (which I'm growing as long as I possibly can!) are getting very nicely clumped curls, the canopy, not so much. If my hair were shorter I'd probably get better results. I should note that I also live in the rainy Pacific Northwest, so humidity isn't very high.
End result: Beachy Hair, not producty when dry but feels like it going on. Soft too, but don't expect ringlets if you're a 3A like me!

WOW I love this stuff! At first I was really put off by the price but I finally decided to try it out. Recoil is awesome! I love how there was so little crunch after application which also meant I had a way shorter drying time! It defined my curls and waves beautifully and don't even get me started on frizz control! Also I love that you need so little to get the full effect :) also the scent is awesome- try it!

After chopping all my hair off into a short curly bob, I decided to give this product a second try. Worked okay for about two weeks, decent clumping power, but definitely need to use something else for frizz control. After two weeks of use, my hair has gone very limp and lost its spring; I had to do a protein treatment to get the bounce back in my curls. I'm going to switch back to using a light hold gel, so my hair doesn't get limp over time and since I don't need too much definition with my curl pattern

I absolutely love this product. I use it with Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper. I didn't need to use much either to get great results. It made my curls clump and definitely defined them. It totally reminds me if what my hair looks like if I let it dry after coming out of the ocean. It gives it some volume and combined with the Curl Keeper my hair is frizz free and the curls are beautiful.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 curls is because of the price. At $20 it is pretty expensive but a little goes a long way so I guess it does last a while.

3b/c fine thin hair in Hawaii (ssooo humid)

I love love this product. This is a God send for us curlies with thin fine hair. I get so soft big defined curls. I section my hair in 6 sections and use curl keeper about a nickel size then about a dime size of this on each section. Then top it off with KCCC to hold. It doesn't weigh my hair down at all. I am in love. :)

I love this product sometimes. haha it makes my hair extremely crunchy but it comes out when i scrunch it for a bit. but this product makes my hair shiny and more mangable but the only thing is it doesnt have the right kind of hold so i use a curling cream then that then scrunch out the crunch and its perfect! :)

I'm really liking this product. It was recommended by a friend so I gave it a shot. I'm using it after I condition with the AG conditioner and I mix just a teensy bit of Fekkai glossing creme in with the curl creme. Now, please note, I diffuse. I like volume and softness I get with the hair dryer and don't like the crunchiness that tends to come with air drying (plus I'm lazy in the morning and never give my hair time to air dry). My hair is soft to the touch, my curls are still well defined if a bit more "beachy" as they like to describe this product. The smell is great. I do notice that if I use a tad to much or don't distribute evenly I get "globs." I'm sure this could lead to crunchiness or flakiness if you air dry. I do still have a bit of frizz, but that could be due to the fact that I'm diffusing dry so I tend to get more fly-aways than girls who air dry. So far, I'm loving AG Hair!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this product. Very few products help tame my frizz... and this one's THE BEST! Good curl definition. It can be a little stiff if you use a whole lot, but if you don't like that, just use less. Doesn't flake, you can reactivate it, and it smells nice.

I love how this defines my 3B/3C curls so beautifully . The smell is pretty good as well and this stuff keeps my hair looking pretty even through all this current NYC humidity , HOWEVER , it DOES make hair crunchy , no matter what amount you use . The best thing to do is scrunch out the crunch gently and your hair will be just fine :)

I tried to believe the hype but my hair didn't agree. After a week of epic failure tried different combos this isn't for me. It stretched out my curls made my hair frizz I had the halo and it got big, dry, and felt like a rough cottonball...gave me results like ecostyler so I blame it on the protein i will be sticking to my KCKT+KCCC.

Recently, I have started to use it again and I love it for summer humidity and helps keep my hair from getting poofy and frizzy. I am still trying to find the right fit, but I would recommend this product!

I have given away over $100 in hair gels, too many flakes, ugh, but this by far is the best I've ever used. I will be natural a year in July 2011 and have spent a ton of money to get where I am right now - satisfied. My curls last 3-4 days, i retwist my 3inches of hair every night with a couple of spritzes of Jane Carter Leave in Replenishing Mist. Wake up and untwist. My hair won't hold a twist set without resetting every night and ok, I accept that, but this product gives great definition, but I'm still frizzy and i've learned to accept that too, it's humid here in the south and when I walk outside, my hair is pulled just right and by the time i get to work, it's shrunk, but it still has curls. Way to go, this one is a keeper. I would not have found this product if not for the Best of Best on your website. Thanks....Em

I read great things about this product so I went out and bought it. I bought this with the JOICO whip and the combo wasn't very good. I would apply a bit of the recoil and then add in the whip mousse and my hair didn't turn out so good. recoil is very thick and I think it stopped the whip mousse from doing what it was suppose to do. On to the next curl creme.

I am a latin girl with tight corckscrew (3c) curls. I read all the great reviews on this product and wanted to try it for myself. I was not disappointed. I have shoulder length hair. When I step out of the shower I scrunch the excessive water out of my hair with a micro-fiber towel. I then add a nickel sized amount and rub my hands together (a little goes a long way). I scrunch the product into my hair starting at my ends and dabbing alittle on the top of my head. No need to comb this through. I then use a Conair curly hair blow dryer with attached diffuser and dry around my hair until about 80% dry. I air the rest. My hair sets a little bit firm, however, once my hair is dry I do scrunching motions on the ends of my hair and this breaks up the slight firmness of the set product. It's fantastic. I get compliments on how shiny and well defined my curls are. When the warmer weather coming I am so happy I found a product that will give me beachy soft curls/waves which is truly a carefree style. I should also mention that religiously use DevaCurl One Condition and DevuaCurl No Poo. My hair is in great condition. I have to treat it well because I have very dry hair.

I do not like the smell when applying this product but my overall result is fab!. I put too much product in and have lots of white flakies on the top of my hair. I finger combed it through and scrunched my hair and let it ari dry. I had to scrumch it a bit after becasue I put too much in and my hair was crunchy. Will try it with less product next time. A new fav in my daily routine.

I don't write many reviews, but this stuff is awesome. I have shoulder length 3a/3b hair. I use a leave-in with 5-7 drops of virgin Argan oil mixed in and raked thru, then on top of that about a quarter-sized dollop of the recoil worked thru well and then either air dry or diffuse with Hand Hair Dry Gloves. There is usually a little bit of crunch that is easily scrunched out and my hair is beautifully full and fluffy with great defined curls and no frizz. Even looks great the next day with a bit of fluffing and misting. Have used Curl Keeper for years and thought I couldn't find anything I liked more - looks like I have. My only turn-off is the price, but otherwise a great product.

I tried it because I was looking for beachy style waves with my S-patterned hair - but what I got with this and CK is actual spirals with great bounce and hold! To refresh the second day - I put a small, small amount of this in my hands with some CK and water, emulsify and scrunch in...and the curls are even more defined than the first day!

I'm so glad it works for lots of people, too bad not for me. It made my hair feel greasy. I do know it very known for working great with just a small amount but being my hair is so long, I would use just a tad bit more. Maybe that is why it did not work for me??

I would recommend this product. I use this product over Curl Keeper and it does a great job when defining my curls! When I first used this product I put a lot on damp hair, which makes my hair hard. The next time I used this product my hair was soaking wet. I only used pea size and added water to it. I rubbed it all over my hands and applied it evenly all over my hair. This did the trick. It works better when I diffuse my hair.

Love it! I bought this previously but wasn't to crazy about it. I finished the bottle and months later I decided to give it a second try due to all the good reviews. Its great! I think my problem before was that I was mixing it with the wrong products. This product works well alone but I pair it up with a little Curl Keeper first. The curls are nice and bouncy and soft when dry and no crunchy feeling. The only thing I don't like is the smell. I don't mind it but if they can make it smell sweet I would absolutely adore this stuff. It doesn't smell bad but I would like something that my husband can bury his face in. lol

I have shoulder length bouncy hair-- and I love this for a quick air-dry morning routine. I rake a few nickel sized portions (over a leave-in), with Curls in a Bottle on top, and finger-twist my hair. Once dry, flip and scrunch, and I have bouncy curls all day :) No frizz! Do like it better with another light gel on top than by itself.

I really love this product, though it took a few tries to figure out the right amount to use. Some other reviewers had said they mix a bit of the product with water and rub it in their hands before applying and I've found that this works for me as well because this product is so thick and creamy. I think mixing a small dab with a little water and rubbing it in my hands before applying allows me to get a better application. As others have also said, I have to use only a very small amount of this, otherwise my hair gets greasy and weighed down (my hair is thick, but really fine). Obviously, the up side to using such a small amount at a time is that a tub of this lasts a long time, which is terrific considering the price. I've been using this with CurlKeeper, but I think I could probably get similar if not better results by using just some leave-in conditioner first and then a dab of Re:Coil. I'm not fond of the scent of this product (it's hard to describe exactly what it smells like), but thankfully it's rather faint and doesn't last, so it doesn't compete with my perfume. I appreciate that Jessicurl products have the fragrance free option, but while I love their conditioners, the styling products just don't work nearly as well for me (I ended up with stringy, frizzy hair). With Re:coil, I get so much better curl formation and using a bit of leave-in and the CurlKeeper has really helped reduce my frizz as well. I will definitely continue to buy this product and recommend it to others.

I was really excited to try this product because of the awesome reviews. Sadly, I did not get good results with this one. It actually made my hair more frizzy. My curls didn't hold or stay together after they dried. I distributed the product evenly so I know that wasn't the problem. My hair also felt REALLY dry. Normaly, my curls also stay nice the next day and the day after using this my hair was poofy and the curls totally fell. I wish I could return it. The best thing I've tried is Moroccanoil Curl Control Cream. I'm going to stick to that for now.

I will definitely be purchasing the curl keeper to maintain my frizz control. Overall this is great stuff the curl formation kind of remind me of kinky curly....12oz tube here I come love love love this stuff...For all thr curlies that are like 3c's wth some 4a I would reccomend. I have some shrinkage but not a whole lot I just kept shaking my hair like every 20mins to try and keep some elongation. But I love the way hair came out it looks like a straw set kinda springy boingy curls like....I found me another keeper that I probably would have not tried just trying to stick with my basic products,

Hair type: 3A, super fine texture, spirals. I tried every which way to get this to work for me. To me, it's like a very heavy leave in conditioner that is like that tacky wall glue. I tried raking it through my hair, combing it through, mixing it with some water. However, I think it is a good refresher. When I put a little bit in my hands and then added some water and scrunched on dry hair it salvaged a bad hair day pretty well. So many people have good luck with it though so give it a shot!

I've been using this product for about 4 days now and trying different ways to style my hair with it, and I think I've finally found the perfect combo. I have 2c hair so when I used this the first time it left my hair really crunchy and gave it the wet look, 2 things I don't like. When I used my diffuser with the product it made my waves a little softer. Finally last night I put it in my hair before going to bed, diffused it just to get a lot of wetness out, and then slept on it. When I work up this morning my waves looked great and didn't have the crunchy feel to it. Usually sleeping on my hair makes it completely crazy in the morning, but having this product in it really made it work well. I'm a fan.

I have 3C hair. It's extremely THICK and being black I can honetly tell you that I've tried a lot of curly products since I've transitioned to my natural texture....Miss Jessie's if O.K. but my hair would be fizzy the next day...Kinky Curly is O.K. but it wouldn't define the ringlets I was born with (PLUS ITS A GEL) and my hair type needs a cream for moisture. I REALLY, REALLY like the AG RE:COIL because it DEFINES, SEPARATES, AND KEEPS THE FRIZZ AWAY. You don't need to use that much but just make sure it's evenly distributed on very wet hair AFTER YOU APPLY THE AG FASTFOOD LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER FIRST! For people who stated that their hair was "crunchy" you probably used to much...and for people who said it dried their hair out you probably didn't apply this product over a leave-in conditioner. TRUST ME - JUST GIVE IT A TRY...I should know since I have tried almost everything. This is the best I've found. It really is the "Best of the Best" for a reason. Good luck finding it at a salon near you.

Why did I wait so long to try this? I bought a tube months ago, and I got two other tubes free from promotions. And yet it sat there untried. I guess I was worried about how much to use and what to use it with. Anyway, I found a new hairdresser (when my old one retired) and she used Re:coil and I loved the result. Since that two weeks ago, I've only been using Re:coil as my styler and find it works wonderful for me with or without CurlKeeper (hate the smell of that). Re:coil has a pleasant, discreet scent, a creamy texture, and it really does tame frizz, define curl, and maintain non-crunchy softness. Only drawback is I find it drying. However, I use Curl Junkie CALI underneath and no problem. I happen to use a good amount (a nickel sized blob rubbed in my palms until both hands have a creamy layer, then rake and scrunch it into damp or wet, but not soaking-wet, hair. Maybe by summer I might need a gel or CK on top, but for now, just Re:coil is rocking it for me in moist spring weather. I'm glad now I have three tubes. :D Oh, and it doesn't irritate my supersensitive, allergy-prone scalp/neck/face skin.

I bought it based on positive reviews, and I am sorry to say that this is awful. In fact, one of the worst I've ever tried. Hair was super crunchy, rough the touch and hard to manage. Basically looked and felt terrible. I'm obviously in the minority here, but this was my experience with this product. I was patient with it and tried it several times, but we're just not meant to be. The orange creamsicle scent was the only likeable thing about this product. Straight to the trash can it went.

It's a great product but you have to tweak how much you use OR your hair will get crunchy. It's better then most products I've tried. I now only have to put on AG Fast Food then Re:Coil.
Both are pretty expensive in Canada (well at least Vancouver). I put out 50+$ every 6-8 weeks.

Ok, it's time for me to write a review on this! I have a short, angled bob cut and fairly thick hair. It's starting to get humid here in Michigan and I don't want a poofball hairdo - so I'm reordering Recoil. I have other options, one of which is Arc An Gel but I have to turn to Recoil. This morning I cut apart the tube to get the last little bit out. I use Curl Keeper under it, but it works well without it too. My curls are defined, smooth and soft. Awesome!

The best gel-creme on the market in my opinion. This stuff is the bizness in terms of frizz reduction, curl enhancement, and clumpage! It's not producty and it leaves my hair feeling moist and light. Now, for some the mag sulfate may be a tad drying, but its easily remedied by using a LI under it.

I try to wash my hair every 3-4 days to keep it from drying out and this product is GREAT on the first day. I get lots of compliments on Day 1. The product holds my ringlets and gets rid of frizz.

However, on Day 2-3, it does exactly what it says on the bottle -- produces "beach hair." ...and I don't mean sexy Baywatch-style beach hair. I mean "I got caught in a wave and dragged under, sweated in the hot sun all day and can't wait to take a shower" beach hair.

I use Jessicurl Awe Inspiraling Spray to reactivate my curls and it works well, but I've used other products that don't require so much maintenance after Day 1.

Even though the product is great on Day 1, I won't buy it again.

This is a really great product! I'd give it 5 curls, but the product made my hair pretty scrunchy while drying. Other than that I love it, and will definetly repurchase! It makes perfect defined curls and smells DELICIOUS! Almost kndof marshmallow-y

I really liked this product. It definitely needs a leave in conditioner underneath it as I've seen on some other reviews. Without it I think you tend to have some frizz. I used the jessicurl rockin' ringlets with the DevaCare Arc AnGel which was great but with my coarse hair I needed something heavier and this did the trick. I haven't seen a whole lot of reviews for 2C curls. I also use a hair serum as well as a base to start.

I'm glad this is working for so many people, but I just couldn't get it to do anything for me. Like Mop Curl Definer Creme, Re:Coil is like glue and is very difficult for me to distribute. It made my hair frizzy, greasy and very flat on top. When my hair dried, I had a halo of frizz all over the place before I could even scrunch it out. Maybe it works for some people, but my hair is too fine for this type of product. It might be better for folks with thicker, courser hair.

An awesome product! I use it over CK and get amazing results. Using them both, I get defined, more-curly-than-normal, soft curls. I would recommend this to everyone, in particular those with 3a-3b hair.

I bought this product over a year ago and used it 'sparingly' as the other reviewers suggested and it did nothing for my hair. I came back and re-read the reviews and thought I'd give it another go. I used Mixed Chicks leave-in conditioner (either on hair that is very wet or I prefer diluting the leave-in with water and spraying on damp hair) and then a few good sized squirts of AG Recoil (my hair is 3B and barely shoulder length). It is hard to use that combination and have your hair go crunchy, but if it does, you can easily scrunch it out. It is an amazing combination for me, but I know different things work on different people.

This is one of the best curl creams I have ever used! As a curly stylist I have tried almost everything under the sun, as we all have! This holds your curls lets them dry right and when it is dry, you can scrunch to soften the look and it still holds your curls! And your hair doesn't feel weighted down or gunky. Bravo to AG!

This product is IT! I cannot live without it. I have 3b/3c hair and live in humid Georgia, which can be a frizz nightmare in the summer! This product does away with my frizz and gives me curl definition without the crunch. I had to play with it at first but when I found out a little went a LONG way all was well. (I have A LOT of hair and still only use a dime-sized amount.) I use a leave-in first and then add a dime-sized dollop into my hair, scrunching it as I apply. Sometimes I add 2-3 drops of grapeseed oil with it when I feel my hair is a little too dry. Then I let it air dry and I do not touch it!! It works wonders!

This product is fantastic. It really does define and "activate" my curls like I've never seen before. Since I've started using this product, I get daily compliments on my curls. I have shoulder lenth 3b hair and use 3-4 pumps (each is about a teaspoon) and thats it! It leaves my hair bouncy, curly, and soft-absolutely no crunch and it feel like I have nothing in there. I keep it in the shower and put it on my hair while its practically dripping, set it in a microfiber towel for 15 minutes and then diffuse for a few minutes and my hair is good to go for up to 3 days. Give it a try!

Love this stuff! I use it in concert with AG's Fast Food (FF first, then this).

I think that those who have posted negative reviews were either using too much or using it on hair that was too dry (it needs very wet hair).

APPLICATION I finger rake it into my very wet upside down 3a/3b long hair while still standing in the shower then I gently scrunch a bit and wrap my head in a tshirt for ten minutes before letting it out.

RESULTS: I get soft, smooth defined bouncy ringlet curls. Very little crunch, lots of smoothness. I've gotten tons of compliments on my hair from strangers since I started with this stuff. But a little goes a LONG way. I've only on my 2nd tube, after almost a year of use!

Posted by twistedcurl (Type 3c) on 06/30/2009

I have thick waist length hair & it takes a good 1/4 of the tube to work on my hair. It made it stiff after it dried, but scrunching it loosened it up. No friz! Put it on very wet hair, combed thru, flipped hair down and scrunched. Don't touch while drying. Retains curls longer than CK. Spritz with water to reactivate. Love it.

I have never used a curl activator but I sure needed one! This product gave my hair just what it needed to get soft ringlets instead of just squiggles for curls. It took me several tries to find the right application method and combination for my hair but after 3 or 4 tries I think I have it right. I have soft bouncy, shiny curls that look fantastic. My hair usually had half formed curls that didn't quite make the cut. I agree that a litte goes a long way and it must be applied to soaking wet hair. I added it to Curl Keeper and a little gel and scrunched dry. Love it!

Cons: very thick consistency. Hard to distribute through hair.I mix it with my Biotera gel or my Curl Keeper and finger comb it through.(a little goes a long way) Don't like the smell too much, something like wannabe vanilla...

Pros: creates nice chunky curls. Leaves my curls very defined from roots to ends. Love the curl formation and they last all day. Works life gel and hairspray in one, great hold!! No frizz at all.
    truly recommend it

It took me a bit to get on the bus with this. But once I figured out that this product likes to be RAKED through WET hair and not scrunched through damp hair, it made all the difference.

Re:Coil makes my 3b curls put their best foot forward. My curls, which have a tendency to run amok in all directions, have shape, clumpage, and definition. My curls are fatter and bouncier than with nigh any other product I've ever tried.

I use Re:coil in combination with Curl Keeper and finish off with Curlisto's Unruly Paste for a shiny, piecey turnout. I'm forever getting compliments from strangers on my "beautiful curls". That has never, honestly, ever happened before.

Jury's still out, but so far, a TINY bit does go VERY far. I use a spot the width of the bottle's opening, mixed with a dollop of L'Oreal Out of bed Weightless Texturizer, and smooth throughout the hair. I use a second portion like the first for the under layers. I seem to be getting less clumping than just with LOOB, so I might use even less Re:coil next time.

I noticed this product wasn't as moisturizing when I put it on as what I'm used too. However, when my hair dried, it looked great and my hair was moisturized. As the day wore on, though, my hair got drier and drier. By the end of the day, my hair was dry, course, and frizzy. The moisture doesn't last all day for me, even though it starts off pretty good. The smell was a little too strong for me too. Happy to hear it works for a lot of 3Cs out there. My 3C/4A hair really absorbs moisture and I need products that work 'all day' since I don't have time to reapply during the day.

I love this mixed with Confident Coils. It makes my hair curl all the way up to the root, and gives me the cutest chunky spirals. Also, mixing this with CCSS makes it much easier to distribute (something I could never do well with it on its own). Have not yet had a problem with dryness, but I do rotate my products.

Smell is very pleasant, promotes awesome clumping. Overall a very great product!

I agree with everyone else, this stuff is amazing! I have the best results when I use about a pea size amount, and mix it with some water and then work it into wet hair. It is very thick and you don't need much. I can use it alone for soft curls, or with my gel for tighter, long lasting curls. I believe that the people that posted negative results weren't using it correctly. Awesome, awesome product!

I absolutely freakin' love this product. It is one of the best curl enhancers I have ever used. Everybody is right, though, a little bit will go an awful long way. And, you get such great shine, frizz control and curl definition. I like to layer it over my favourite volumizing mousse. I have gotten so many compliments on my gorgeous curls when I use Re:coil. This past new year's I was a curl goddess! The only complaint I have (and this is a very, very tiny complaint) is the smell. It's sort of sweet, I don't know, like vanilla ice cream or something. To me, it's not a fresh, clean smell. However, it does go away really quickly and you're still left with super model curls ready to walk the catwalk of life.

I had such high hopes for this product when it arrived in the mail. First, the consistency feels like glue. Second, once my hair dried my hair was clumped togeter at the crown of my head. Third, it flattened the top of my head and created clumpy curls at the bottom. Fourth, my curls were so crunchy once they dried. I will try experimenting with countaties as suggested, but right now this product is terrible for my curls.

(3c) really good product. great definition w/o leaving is crispy or stiff. a little goes a long way. i've got A LOT of hair and i use a small dollop of it (penny size). feels a little drying w/ prolonged use, but i've curbed that by using just a tad of grapeseed oil or glossing creme before i put AG on. then it holds the moisture very well.

Wow! This really worked for me. A small dap layered between leave-in and Curl Keeper and I had the curls I crave--big, chunky, shiny, touchable, frizz free curls. Strange texture out of the tube, and it seems to get thicker in your hands. Definitely easier to use on very wet hair. Moving this product the head of the line.

I am disappointed with this product. It's very concentrated which I thought would be a good thing, but I have to use a lot to get thru my hair, and it doesn't help frizz at all, therefore I can't comment on the curl formation. On to the next product!

I cannot believe how much difference this product makes. I have a perfect system that leaves my curls completely frizz free now and this is the crowning glory (last product I use to finish me off). If I use something else, it shows. If I use Devacare Lowpoo, DevaCare One Condition, Curl Keeper and finish with this, my hair is literally frizz free with soft loose curls. I have noticed though that all 4 products must be used together or some of the frizz comes back so they work in conjunction with one another. This truly takes the frizz down and out. Its wonderful stuff.

Like everyone has said, a little really does go a long way. And it is hard to work with. That being said...
    PROS:
-clumps curls together extremely well. If you're like me and have lots of wispy strands of curls flying around everywhere, it will definitely help.
-concentrated. Will last a long time
    CONS:
-virtually no frizz control in the summer. Not good, especially since it tends to weigh hair down (another con)
-it's really hard to get consistent good results with this product. It's pretty finicky.
I have fine 3b hair, I like this product for the chunkier curls but it really is difficult to get the right amount without weighing your hair down. I think for thicker, coarser hair, it may work better.

Probably the best product I've found for my hair, but it's not perfect. Great definition and some shine, but you have to use exactly the right amount, otherwise it feels glue-y. I like to mix it with something with a lot of silicone, like JF's DownPlay.

Re:coil is my HG cream styler, that I adore even more than Boots! It has enough hold for me to use it alone when I want a softer look. I just love how it controls frizz, it's quite miraculous actually considering the number of products that I've tried and that didn't keep their promise to eliminate frizz... I mix it with water in my hands so distribute it easily and evenly in my hair. It's fantastic in wet and dry hair, and for 2nd day curls. My hair even turns out shiny with it!

    Posted by krisan54 (Type 3b) on 05/03/2006

I love this stuff! I use it in with Paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam (medium hold) and some watered-down gel. The Re:Coil helps to evenly curl my hair all over, and it makes it possible for me to wear my hair curly a second day without having to thoroughly wet it. It works okay by itself, but the combination of this with the sculpting foam makes my curls outstanding.

A/G is fast becoming one of my fave lines. Recoil is a difficult product to work with... I give everyone that. What works very well for me is mixing about 40% recoil with 60% fastfood, smooshing it all together in my hands and then scrunching in my hair when still dripping wet. Then I plop for 10 mins, dry and voila, way better than curls rock for me (I can't find anything to mix this one with). Worth a shot IMHO.

I've been using re:coil since I first started going "natural" almost one year ago. Although I do not use it daily, I always keep in near by. I HATE the fact that it is not consistant with me. Some days BEAUTIFUL hair, other days frizz ball mess. When I do get the right amount in my hair, I get such awesome volume, softness, hold, CURL!! and my hair just looks so natural! Plus, I love the smell. On bad days, my hair grets very frizzy with this cream, or it feels so producty!? I tried watering this down one day with water and my hair felt so gookey...as if it were coated in oil and water?? Not doing that again. Plus, 16$ canadian for this moderate sized tube that doesn't seem to last long for me- NOT good. Overall, I keep coming back to this cream because when it works, it really does do magic on my hair! Very different results from what I've ever gotten from another product!

As stated though, you must start with a dab and I recommend on wet hair, not damp. Experiment with it before giving up on it. Love it! Helps my dry damages hair. I have people stop me onthe street and tell me they love my hair when I use it. A+++

This did nothing for my short 2a hair but make it greasy and weighed down. I kept reducing the amount I used each time, but when I got to the amount that didn't weigh it down - I just got frizz. My husband commented that my hair looked dirty. Too bad, I had high hopes for this one.

I like this a lot! I have 3A (although can go from 2C-3B depending on whatever mood it's in that particular day!) hair. I work Re:Coil through damp hair, then use Paul Mitchell Super Sculpt glaze over. I get beautiful, controlled curl! Not sticky, not frizzy. Remember that a little goes a long, long way. Easy to use too much, which will give you icky hair. My only complaint is that I hate the way this smells! Very strong, gagging vanilla scent. Truly awful. The PM glaze seems to take it away though, so I'll keep using because of the great results I get with this!

I really like this product. It makes my hair soft defines curls, and helps with the frizzies. A little does go a long way. Be warned that you can not put too much product in one spot, if you do you hair will be flater and feel greasy. If you are careful with that it's a great product.

The best way to describe the way this product is it's like you just rubbed hand lotion on your head. If you use enough to get curl definition, it weight hair down, flattens the top and creates clumpy curls. If you use just a bit, hair is frizzy and just plain wierd. Too bad because i had looked forward to using this product. And the price! Sixteen bucks for something this bad? Don't waste your money.

2C-3A. Hated it, left my hair greasy, weighed down with almost no wave. Very flat on top.

Love the stuff! It is easy to use and provides the right amount of softness, curl definition and shine to weigh down my curls without being too crunchy.

I love it, too. Awesome curl separation and definition. A little goes a long way.

One of the best products I've tried for curl formation. The curls aren't crunchy at all, but they have good definition and shine. It has a nice, creamy consistency - not greasy.
