Smells lovely and made my hair feel soft and thoroughly clean! I was very impressed, and plan to buy some for my little sister to use on her hair in the future. c:

I don't even know what took me so long to buy this product but I got is on sale for $5 something. It worked so well that I felt a little guilty only paying that much for it. After applying it to a section of hair my hair was de-tangled! When I tell you it took me 16 mins (I time my washes) to wash my 3c, mostly 4a and some 4b hair. I normally use aussie moist conditioner to cowash but this has if not better slip then that plus all those wonderful ingredients. Love love love! This is a new staple product for me that is definitely going to get stocked up on.

This product has saved my super dry, porous hair. I love it, and can't live without it. I have been tempted at times to go back to my old shampoo, and do. I am always appalled as to how dry shampoos leave my hair after using this co-wash. I use it all the time. I'm addicted. It does not leave a build up on my hair and seals in moisture. It's been over a year now, and I have not stopped loving this product. I usually comb this in or run it through with my fingers. I don't rough up my strands of my hair as I would with shampoo. Instead, I pull the product through my strands until they are coated. You might need to add water as you go to get a good slip throughout your hair. I leave it in for a few minutes and then rinse with cool water. If my hair still feels grimy I coat it one more time (a lot loss product the second time around) and rinse. I follow up with curl rehab conditioner, and then As I Am leave-in conditioner. These three products work great for me. Hope this helps!

So many people talked about this product to me that I really wanted to try it even though it's expensive in my country (France) 20€. I finally simply hate this co wash there is something about this product that my hair rejects completly. It's horrible how it dries my mane, it does not detangle my hair AT ALL quite the opposite it messed it up!!! It leaves my scalp completly dry I gave it the benefit of the doubt I mean I used it more than 6 Times and I regretted each time! Want to throw it but when I think of the price...

OMG I hated this product! If i had known that my hair would feel dry and stripped while using this cowash, I would've used a shampoo instead. Even my dc couldn't remedy my dry hair. I had to start over using another brand's cowash.

Surprised that a co-wash would leave my hair stretchy clean; but it was still very manageable and oh so soft. I did not feel that a leave in was necessary, but I used one any way. Hair felt supple, soft, handled well, curls were visible in all their glory and my hair was happy before the leave in was applied. This product just might replace my current go to which is the Eden Body Works line.

Fabulous! Knots slide out like a fantasy! It makes my hair so soft. I used to use tresemme flawless curls which is great too but i HATE the smell, so that's a plus about the co wash, smells amazing too! I highly dislike the packaging so i used a plastic bag to get it into a normal bottle which makes me happier! This is certainly a staple from now on! Until I find something more economical even though 16 oz for $8 is not bad at all but if something comes along, I'll bite.
But I love it especially with my tangle teazer are a match made in heaven! My life has been so much better with this product!

I really love this stuff because I use it like an all-in-one or shampoo. If I haven't used any gels or heavy creams, I can get away with just using this and doing a nice massage of it through my quadrants in the shower without a lot of tangling. I also like that my hair and scalp feel really fresh but not squeak-squeaky. It is better, though, if I follow up this product with a deep condition and/or thick conditioner afterward. Am considering not buying shampoo anymore and just using this instead.

HG product here. I began using it while transitioning, but didn't like it much. but after my big chop I fell in love. It leaves my hair feeling moisturized and soft. My hair is clean after use and it detangles my hair quite well. The smell is light, but nice and I must say I love a great smelling product. TWO thumbs up for this cowash! - 4A/4B Natural :)

I like it. My staple was Curl Junkie Daily Fix and I was curious about this. I alternated between the two and the As I Am gives more slip and moisture, while the Curl Junkie Daily Fix cleans my scalp and hair better. I put it away and continued using CJ because it gave me a clean slate for hair styles + cleaner scalp, but overtime the oat flour tangled and dried out my protein sensitive hair. I now stick with As I Am and my hair is happy with the consistent results. I can add more styler after cleansing with As I Am, but it is a true co-wash so I definitely incorporate shampoo into my regimen to keep my scalp fresh. Overall, it is hydrating, affordable, accessible and great for protein sensitive, low porosity heads like me.

I was pleasantly surprised by this co wash. (3B, shoulder length hair, high porosity, low density, fine) Regular conditioners don't work that well as a co wash for me and I got away from unnatural products months ago so, I have been picky. Picky but still not keen on spending much for products. This co wash was so economical that I was skeptical it would be good...I tried it because of the great reviews! I honestly can say that I would buy this again. It's pretty nuetral smelling and really works well. I don't have to use much and the time between shampooing is longer. Hair isn't dried out, very smooth. Love.

I love, love, love this product. I love the scent of it. I love how soft it makes my hair, how it doesn't leave a greasy feeling, and how CLEAN my hair and scalp feel when I use it. I've always had a very oily scalp. This is the only product I've found that works for cowashing for me. I can go 3-4 days before I have to use the cleansing pudding, and I've never been able to go a day without shampooing my hair before. I'm so glad I found this product, and that I can get it for a great price at my local store.

I'm surprised that I enjoy this co-wash...because I'm a product snob. Because it's in a jar, I didn't apply it in the shower. Instead, I used a spray bottle to moisten a small section of hair, apply this stuff, finger detangle, smooth, then move on to the next small section. It took a while to do my entire head because it was gnarly and tangled, but it got the job done. The scent is pleasant. The slip could be more robust, but a spritz of water was able to provide more slip as opposed to adding more product. I used more product than I needed, but it really replenished my moisture levels. After rinsing in the shower, I applied my leave-in, styler, and allowed my hair to air dry. I was pleased that I didn't need to follow up with another rinse-out. My scalp felt cleansed and refreshed. Some of my hair even squeaked, but didn't feel stripped.

I have combo 2c-3a thin hair. Wasnt impressed by the slip. It actually would not detangle my hair and had to go to my new best killer combo detangler Kinky curly knot and Bee Mine. What a super duo, amazing detangling power. I will NOT be reordering As Iam- just didnt do a thing for my hair but I encourage others to try it may work on your hair.

I was a loyal Deva fan until I discovered I have a gluten & soy allergy...so the hunt began for products that didn't contain either of those ingredients. Some of the As I Am products have wheat in them, so they aren't gluten free, but this product has zero wheat/gluten in it!

I have 3b curls, low porosity, and very thick/dense. My hair responds well to thick products (pastes and pommades) that provide at least moderate slip. I would give this product 5 stars if it was thicker and has more slip (so that I could detangle without a comb). Otherwise, it leaves my hair soft and it smells nice.

Love. Moptop gives my hair a little more curl, but it doesn't smell as wonderful(not to mention it's 3x cheaper.) I just wish they offered it in a different type of container. The tub they use is easy to drop - which leads to product wastage. :(

My hair just didn't like this product, as I've stated in other reviews, some things work for some people and they give it 5 stars and some don't and I have to give this 1 star. It felt very dry going onto my hair and didn't cleanse well nor did it help in anyway with detangling.

  • 4

    Posted by tmarque27 (Type 3c) on 04/01/2014

I can't give it a 5 stars because I haven't used the product longs, but for what I have used it for it was GREAT!
I used it as my no poo, actual, cleansing conditioner and as conditioner after a clarifying wash or water wash.

    SMELL: Awesome
    CONSISTENCY: Medium Creamy, non sticky
    SLIP: Easy
Use: A little goes a long way, could last a while

I have a lot of hair, with medium to coarse texture and fine strands mixed in. My hair DOES NOT like to be weighed down.

I love this co-wash in my 3a hair. I've been CG for 6 weeks. It does a great job of getting product out of my hair with out stripping the natural oils. I previously used the loreal cowash and found my hair felt heavy dirty, and sticky with that brand. My only complaints is also packaging. I really wish it came in a container with a pump.

Great cleansing product and smells pretty good. I have think hair so usually conditioners don't cleanse as well as a shampoo. I apply lots of oil throughout the week so a good cleansing is well needed by day 5. This does the job perfectly. It actually lathers a bit like shampoo, but not as harsh. I will definitely keep this on hand.

    OMG I love this product!
I have extremely dry irrirtated scalp, that is very susceptible to buildup but my hair gets so dry and brittle with shampoo( even sulfate free). I was looking for a product that could thoroughly cleanse my scalp but also not dry out my hair. The cleansing cowash makes my hair soft and moisturized. I have even detangled my tight curls with this product. The only thing I would change is the packaging, it always seems to make a mess in my shower :)

Posted by CurlyIvy (Type 3b) on 02/28/2014

So far so good! I love the smell and the texture is creamy but not too thick. I used a good amount for my scalp and then a bit more for the rest of my hair (length is a little past my shoulders when dry). Afterwards I bunned my hair and let it sit while I finished my shower. I thought the slip was good and the comb went through my hair with no struggle. Plus, I tend to lose lots of hair when washing but with this product I lost practically no hair. It didn't leave my hair heavy with grease as coconut-based products usually do, and it cleaned my scalp well. Slip and packaging could be better but I like it enough to recommend.

I only use this I have some how had to skip wash day and don't have a lot time for a full wash. But it leave my hair clean and conditioned at the same time. I haven't noticed any dryness

First time I used it, it was great!! Better than any other co wash I have tried. Now when I use it, my curls won't even clump together. It's so weird. It's as if it makes my hair frizzy when wet.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this product! Smells wonderful and performs wonders. It really "cleans" my hair but conditions at the same time. I take my time massaging my scalp with it to ensure all buildup is removed. I've noticed that my hair is softer after having used it awhile. I think it's the fact that it has no harsh chemicals. I really am in love with this product. It is a must for curly haired girls.

Posted by mandydc (Type 3c) on 02/11/2014

My friend and I had similar experiences with this cowash. It worked GREAT the first two months and left our hair clean/moisturized, but then it just stopped and made our hair feel extremely dry. I cleansed with a regular shampoo to see if maybe I had buildup that was preventing this product from working properlly- didn't work. At the point I was using the cowash, I had not changed anything in my regimen, so I just had to assume that my hair no longer liked this product. I'm still baffled at why this happened since a lot of the ingredients in this cowash are in my staple hair products.

I really like this product. Cleans better than Ouidad Curl CoWash and is very moisturing.
Mind you, I just received it a couple of days ago and used it only once.
I did not give it a 5 star because of the jar format (not practical in the shower).

I wish I could give this cowash six stars! I have been sulfate free for a while, but my hair had gotten so dry in the winter air and this really brought it back to life. It made it so much easier to detangle and really added great shine. I would highly recommend this.

Low porosity, transitioning hair, protein sensitive
I did not like this product. I am giving 2 stars for the smell, texture, and mostly natural ingredients. It did not provide real moisture (did not strip hair) and it actually has a skin irritant in it. I was really disappointed by that because its supposed to be all natural. Will not buy again.

This product is just ok on my daughter's hair. She has a lot of hair so I felt like I needed to use a lot of this. Smell is great, but right now I prefer other conditioners such as Tresemme Naturals for co-washing. This product does not have enough slip for my taste.

Posted by Rumwolf (Type 3b) on 01/21/2014

I got two of these at sallys during their bogo sale a week ago. I've read all the rave about it and once I tried it I knew why. i've never used a cowash before, I was using tressemme conditioner and shampoo for curly hair which I loved but would always lose a lot of hair in the shower. after trying out this cowash though I noticed that when I detangle in the shower I don't lose almost any hair anymore! literally about 4-5 strands at most but no more hair balls like I used to with tresemme. also noticed how it cleansed my scalp so well as if I would have shampooed with a normal shampoo.

bottom line this stuff is amazing! I do agree however that it has less slip than my old tresemme conditioner but considering its all natural and it leaves my hair just as soft if not softer it passes!!

to anyone thinking about trying this and hesitating DON'T! go and do your hair this favor!!

So i really love this stuff. As soon as i put it on my hair, my hair felt like it was instantly softened. The smell is great and it lathers without that soapy feeling really good. This cowash cleans my hair like a normal shampoo would, but moisturizes my hair and it doesnt leave a stripped feeling to my hair. I gave it only 4 curls because its not as much slip to it as i like when i want to detangle my hair and the jar that it comes in is inconvenient. I would rather it come in a pump or even a tube that i can squeeze out. Oh and when i rinse it out, it makes my scalp feel like it was washed with mint :). Refreshed feeling.

Just used this once--like it but found that I really needed something to detangle. I usually use JC gentle lather--which is so moisturizing for me that I don't need a ro. I used a bit of JC Aloeba cond. to detangle, then the AIA leave in. I think the product is good, perhaps a bit drying for me. I really am more 3A. I do recommend trying it, the ingredients are good and it did leave my hair clean.

I was excited to try this product, since I've heard so many good reviews. And also because I was in deep need of an all natural co-wash, because sulfate shampoos were stripping my hair. First and foremost, I was overwhelmed by the smell. It has a very overpowering, almost fake fruity smell. I was expecting something a little more subtle like...I dunno, something more like coconut. Now the product does what it's meant to do, it gently cleanses. However, I realized that after a month of using this product, it suddenly started to make my hair feel like straw, and it was actually breaking off! ( I am sure of this because my hair is only about 6 inches long and healthy, and I'd see hair start to break off almost everytime I co-wash with this.) Almost like it has a short shelf life or something. Similarly, the labeling on the jar starts to peel away after about 2 months, leaving brown stuff everywhere. Overall, I am not very happy with this product and I wouldn't recommend. Already have this product replaced in my hair regimen.

So, I finally tried it. I've been CG since 2011. I love having an actual co-wash, and I love the way it smells! The price is great too. It makes my hair really shiny and soft (detangling is easy too). I have really really thick and fine hair, and I am able to use it even though it contains castor oil, so don't let the castor oil scare you off until you try it. So far I haven't had to use a low poo since I bought this, and I love that (usually can't go a week without low poo)! This really keeps my scalp clean. It feels really good when I massage it into my scalp, and I love that my hair smells like coconut all day!

I've bought the As I Am Coconut Co-Wash three times hoping it would work as a staple cleanser in my hair regimen but after using it on several different occasions, I've had to give the jar away every time. I bought a second and third jar of this even though it made my hair feel gross for a couple different reasons: it's really inexpensive for the amount you get, it doesn't leave my hair too squeaky clean, it contains castor oil, my favorite 'growth' oil, and at one point, this cowash was all over youtube and natural hair blogs. Despite all of this, it just does not work for my hair. It goes on rough, meaning there's not enough slip, and it also makes my hair feel like straw. It's kind of hard to explain but when I use this product, my hair strands feel spiky, as if there are sharp miniature sticks attacking my fingers as I try to work it through and massage my scalp. I think this happens because instead of smoothing the hair cuticles, this co-wash somehow raises them. This can be remedied with a 15 min. deep conditioner session, but the point of using a cowash for me is to shorten wash day, not add another step :( I don't seem to have any issues with other coconut oil based products so I really don't know why my hair hates this so much. Needless to say, i've learned my lesson (finally) and won't be using or gifting this product anymore!

IF LOVING THIS STUFF IS WRONG, I DON'T WANT TO BE RIGHT.

Smells like some delicious coconut pudding I get to rub all over my hair. So unfair how good this smells, I'm jealous of myself. And makes my hair feel like a natural woman. Soft, soft, soft, and cared for. It's lovely. I don't even want to try anything else, because I'm so in love. Thank you for making this product, hair gods! And $6.80? God is real.

This is my favourite co-wash. It smells divine and leaves your hair so soft. As it is protein and glycerin free I can use it year round. My only complaint is the tub, but because of its quality and price I can live with it!

I used As I Am CoWash last night and it is amazing! It was very gentle on my hair and very moisturizing! It made my hair very soft and had my curls popping like crazy! It added moisture to my hair. It also made detangling a breeze. When I was done co-washing, my hair felt cleaner than when I shampoo! There was no product buildup! I wasn't to much a fan of co-washing but this product has made me one. I will use this twice a week in between washes. It is now a staple of mine!

I have very dry 2b hair (The dryness is due to Sjogren's Syndrome). I contemplated trying WEN, but have not because it contains silicones which eventually leave build up and dry out my hair even more. My hair has also always been very snarly, frizzy and difficult to style which I understand is pretty common for 2b hair. All I had to do was use the As I Am co-wash and some Kinky Curly Knot Today and my hair was so easy to comb through. Further, I did not have to put anything else in my hair to tame the frizz. It came out nice and smooth. Usually, when I shampoo, I have to use two to three different conditioners in order to combat the dryness and tangles (one for all of my hair, another for the dry ends, and a third to detangle). This cut my shower time in half. It's amazing.

This product is an amazing CoWash. It is very gentle and does what it says. My hair and scalp are clean.
It leaves my hair super soft, detangled and it smells very good.

My hair is a mixture of 2b and 2c. It is mostly fine but I have a lot of it. My scalp needs extra cleansing in order for me to get volume but most shampoos that are successful cleansing my scalp enough tend to dry out my ends even if they are sulfate free. I decided to try this cleansing co-wash even though most reviews for this are for folks with type 3 and 4 hair. I tried it out this weekend and I was amazed. This product got all the buildup out of my hair and my scalp is clean yet my hair is so soft and shiny! I have tons of volume yet soft loose curls. I used this with the Curl Junkie Coconut Argan Oil conditioner afterward then applied a mixture of Milk and Honey Detangle Pudding mixed with a bit of Curl Junkie Pattern Pusha Gel then scrunched and diffused dried my hair. I am having a great hair day even though the dew point is only 33%! <3. I think I will make this my staple.

This was awful for my hair. I wonder why it works so well for others and so badly for a few. This stripped my hair, acted more like a clarifier (which I don't need or use) and left my hair in a knotted mess. I heard such good things about this so I thought I would try it and it has a good price point. I have hightly porous, dry, coily hair (combo 3c/4a) with color highlights. Tresemme Naturals and Kinky Kurly Knot Today work for me. I will finish this up but I won't buy it again. Actually I may just toss it because it took me 5 hours to detangle my hair which is about 7-10 inches long. This might work better for those who use ingredients on their hair that might require a clairfier. I don't use silicones, very little to no oil, or anything with parabens in it.

After reading the reviews on this product I wanted to try it out. Overall, I think it is a good product. It smells super good. I like that it lathers a little. On the days I really want to cleanse my hair it does the job and does not leave my hair feeling stripped of moisture.

After reading reviews on this product, I decided to give it a try. I saw mostly great reviews, but I also saw a couple of reviews saying that it made their hair tangled, knotted, dry, and straw-like...and of course, it did just that to my hair. It was such a hassle getting the knots out and moisturizing it after co-washing with this product. On top of all that, this didn't cleanse my hair at ALL! There was still a bunch of build up in my hair. I will not be repurchasing this product. It may work for others or other hair types, but just not mine. Try at your own risk!

I do not use many gels or products containing silicone, so 9 times out of 10 my hair does not need to be clarified. This cowash not only gives my hair the perfect amount of cleansing, it helps it retain so much moisture after each use. Plus it smells great. 16oz of goodness for that price is unbeatable.

My hair is a mixture of 3c/4a. I use this when I wanna refresh a style but don't have the time to properly treat and wash. The first time i used it it really moisturized my hair, but did not cleanse anything. It made my curls pop, bounce, shine, and for the most part defined, but my scalp still had build up and all the other stuff(but that may because i have very mild psoriasis and I have to really wash my scalp). I love the consistency because its nice and light and won't weigh your hair down. Probably won't buy again but I feel that it would work better for others than me because of my condition.

Hair stats: transitioning, MBL, 4Aish, low porosity, protein and AVJ sensitive

This stuff is amazing! Being a transitioner with very thick hair, I need all the help I can get on wash days. I have never been a huge cowasher because I always hated how my hair and scalp felt after the process was over. I now know that it is because I didn't have the RIGHT cowash conditioner...until I found this one. It instantly melts into my NG and texlaxed hair and makes detangling a breeze. One thing that I have found is that you cannot let it sit for too long or it will over-cleanse your hair and make it stripped feeling. I leave it on for no more than 5 minutes from application to rinse.

My hair is actually 3c and 4a (3c in back and on sides, 4a in the crown) I bought 3 of these thinking they were something I could use. This is a definite NO product for me. There is almost no slip and the coconut wash acts like a clarifier, my hair feels really stripped and dry even while I am still trying to rinse it out. I have to use a lot of moisturizers and conditioners after dealing with this. I have said it before but it bears repeating: no matter what hair type you have proceed with caution, so many things determine if a product works well for each person including the type of water you wash your hair with as well as your genetics. I have very hard water and the net result is a very drying, non luxuriant, clarifying--flat, lotion--that leaves both my hair and my hands wishing it was something MORE.

Fab, fab, fab for higher dews. Smells great. Lathers! Rinsed out well with plenty of water, hair felt moisturized. Still needed a follow-up product with slip, but could skip a leave-in due to great moisture retention. Great clumps that day, in higher dews, without frizz.

I follow it up with the As I Am leave in condish, I have been using four of the As I Am products for about 4 weeks and my hair is looking its best since I went natural 7 months ago. It was dry, frizzy, and breaking at the crown. I was getting ready to put it in box braids to give it a rest then started using As I Am. My roller sets are coming out so pretty and curly.

I have a 3c hair type and heard great things about this product, so I decided to go for it and see how it would work for me. It was awesome. The smell was like a fresh pina' colada. I couldn't stop smelling it when I cracked the lid. This made me even more excited to wash my hair. The consistancy is prefect for a cowash. Not to thick and not to thin, but just right. It had good slip and actually cleaned my hair without leaving it dry and brittle. The feel of my hair after washing was nice and soft and the smell it left on my hair was pleasent not strong at all. This is by far one of my favorite cowash products. My hair loves this stuff. If you're reading this trying to made a decision on if you should try it. Yes, It's definitely worth trying and it won't break the bank either. I gave it 4 curls out of 5 because of the packing. I would have given it 5 curls if it was in a plastic bottle instead of the plastic jar.

I really enjoy how clean and conditioned my hair is after I use this, and it smells really good. I don't like the jar because it can be challenging to scoop it out in the shower. I'd prefer a pump. Another complaint I have is that it seems to make my hair a little more fragile when detangling which is odd because I didn't find protein in the ingredients. Maybe my hair doesn't want to be co-washed? But I do like this and I want to keep it in my regimen.

I think it will be good for using once a week or so, but not every time I wash. The smell was not as strong coconut as I was expecting, but it's an okay smell anyway. All in all, an okay conditioner but it just won't be the holy grail that I was hoping it would be.

I've used this product before, but I decided to order again recently. Always liked the smell. Great price. Accessible not only online but in many stores when I'm running low and need to replace. Is it solely responsible for softening my hair?? Probably not, but it gets the job done.... My hair is super duper thick and easily dries up so I wasn't expecting "miracle moisture" from just using this alone. It cowashes my hair without stripping it of oils as a sulfate shampoo would ( I do pre wash coating with pure coconut oil and let it sit in my hair for an hour anyway just in case.) It is less sudsy than traditional shampoo, detangling isn't a headache, and my hair feels clean. My other products ( 100% jojoba oil and moisturizing butter of choice) take care of everything else. For the price, it's definately worth the buy and will be kept in my hair care regimen for a while.

I absolutely LOVE the As I AM Coconut CoWash. It smells wonderful, not overbearing but lightly scented. Not very thick but it glides on real smooth. I think I got pretty good slippage and my scalp felt really good. My hair felt really clean and moisturized. This is a very good product. I went and got another one to use for my daughters' hair as well.I give this 5 Curls out of 5 Curls.

I like As I Am products, and this is one of my favorites! My hair feels so nice after I finish the rinsing, and there is no frizz or "pyramid" when my hair dries. I do have to use a different shampoo after using this product twice as my hair at the nape of my neck starts to feel a little greasy. I may try using a vinegar rinse to make the hair more pH balanced, that may help.

Hair type: mixed, 3C/4A. I like the As I Am line very much, and the CoWash is the best of them. My hair feels clean and moisturized. I wouldn't say it was all that "light" though, and you have to use a decent amount of it. Thus my 4-star rating. But after trying other products, I definitely missed this CoWash, and it's my go-to product now.

I was disappointed in the performance of this product on my hair. I heard rave reviews about this product, even 1 of my good friends claimed it worked for her tightly curly 4 hair (similar to mine). It smells like coconut and is the consistency of thick conditioner, but yet it spreads easily for easy and quick product application. The price is definitely a bargain, but $ doesn't matter to me if it doesn't work in my hair. All in all, I had high hopes for this product line, but I have had less than optimal results with the 3 products I have tried so far (Coconut cowash, clarifying shampoo, cocoshea spray). I really think this brand of hair products is not meant for my hair makeup, personally. No worries, my holy grail is Blended Beauty soy cream shampoo (5 stars)!
Disclaimer: cowashes/cleansing conditioners do not work for my hair. I heavily apply styling products to keep my hair nice and presentable for 4-6 days before my next washing. Moreover, I have tried V05 (2 stars), Curls cleaner (3 stars), and Wen (2 stars) just to name a few.

Very moistering for my very dry bleach blond 2b-3a type hair, my hair is quite fine.
But I keep wondering if it's getting clean enough, my hair is much softer now then it was before using this product,
but perhaps will only use this one time, to get me through the dry phase.
Still strongly recommend for dry processed hair :)

I've been using this product every 2 weeks or so for some time now..... I can easily say it is one of my top 5 must have FAVORITES. I am big on scents, and this product smells like heaven. It smells clean and fresh with the perfect amount of coconut! I put so many different products in my crazy long frizzy curly hair, and this cowash takes out any leftover gunk and residue. Even with stripping your hair of all excess product, it is still extremely moisturizing and I feel ok not conditioning afterwards. It does not dry out my scalp like I have experienced with other products. Its pretty much just amazing! Definitely a product I will use forever!

I'm giving this four stars just because it does not detangle my hair. It doesn't tangle it though, which is great because my hair is thin and tangles very easily :(. BUT maybe it will detangle for you, hardly anything detangles my hair, not even Kinky Curly Knot Today. The smell is good and I can get little whiffs of it a little while after. The first time I used it I had just let Jamaican Black Castor Oil sit in my hair with heat and I decided to use this to wash it out. That was a bad idea. Probably because it's an oil and I don't think this product is meant to remove that much fresh, thick oil. So I blame myself for that. However, I did not put any conditioner in after I used this product but my hair felt like I had. My curls were defined (this only happens when I use the Tresseme Naturals Volumizing Conditioner and leave in like a gallon of it). I was so happy! Today I decided to try it normally (no pre-oil treatment) and it was great. Still no detangle but my hair felt better. I put in maybe a tablespoon of Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle after and my hair felt ridiculously great. I always need A TON of conditioner to feel like my hair is moisturized, not anymore!!

So after using this for a while now and trying other alternatives I finally feel comfortable enough to review this product. I have tried cowashing for YEARS even before I went natural and it never exactly worked for me so I gave up. After seeing pretty positive reviews on here and from a well known youtuber I decided to try this product out and am so happy I did! This product is AMAZING it gets all that gunky product out of my hair while keeping the natural moisture in my hair balanced and my strands happy it even defines my curls surprisingly. enough. Honestly the best hair purchase I've made in a LONG time and is a dare I say it HG product for me. I would buy a gallon of this stuff with no regrets (for real can this be an option lol)

Just got turned on to co-washing. I am from the old school where I was always taught that you need to have a good shampoo and conditoner. Well all that has changed since I used this product. This product mad my hair so soft that I did not need to detangle at all. I stopped getting relaxers in 2010, but I have two hair types-straight & wavey in the front and my back in curly. So it is hard for me to determine exactly what products I should use. Now that I have this, I am on my way to having my hair be curly all over.

Also, my curls have been so beautiful and shiny. I feel so much more confident with my curly hair bc of this stuff. Theres so much so I feel I am getting every penny worth. On amazon it was $9.99. I hate that you have to sit a jar in the shower and try to scoop out the product with one hand. It has a loose consistency so you have to be careful not to spill any in the shower. I like the smell, kinda reminded me of snow cream. After using the product I can say that it was pretty good. I haven't tried any other cowashes to compare this one to, but so far so good. I will be looking for other products that aren't in a jar. Other than that I would have gave it five stars. I love how easy it goes on and rinses clean.

I tried cowashing my low porosity hair with a cheap Suave conditioner but it left product buildup and my hair dry. I decided to give this a try. It serves it's purpose by getting rid of product buildup without stripping my hair completely. The only thing I don't like is there is no slip to detangle with. I have to follow up with Kinky Curly Knot today to detangle my hair with. I probably would not repurchase this.

I LOVE the As I Am line, and the Coconut CoWash is AWESOME! It conditions as it cleans. I gently renew my curls with this once a week, and my curls are defined and shiny. I don't have to use conditioner after it. Also, like other people said it smells delicious! This is the first holy grail product I have ever found and I'm so glad I did, especially at such a great price! I have two backups in my room to ensure I'll never run out :-) I also use their Curling Jelly when I go out and Curl Clarity about every 2 weeks or so. This is the first line that my hair (2C/3A, fine, low porosity) actually likes! 5 stars for As I Am!

This is a wonderful co-wash for those of us who don't want to stick around doing a co-wash first and then following with a more moisturizing conditioner. I think if your hair is dryer/coarser you may still have to follow up with a moisturizing conditioner, but I've found for my hair which is fairly healthy nowadays thanks to the CG method, this co-wash is enough. Just one step. I wash and massage my scalp to remove any traces of dirt or buildup, let the conditioner sit in my hair while I go about my other shower business, detangle, and then rinse it all out. That's it. Five minutes. My hair is easy to detangle, I have great slip, and did I mention that the smell of this stuff is wonderful? It's not heavy. it's just light and tropical and clean and yum. I get hungry just writing about it. My only gripe is the container. I sooo wish I came in a bottle with a pump rather than a jar. But I'll transfer it the next time I have a suitable container. I'm not gonna deduct a curl for packaging when the product itself is out of this world. Not to mention reasonably priced.

Going on two years natural, I have used As I Am products for the last several months and the Coconut CoWash Cleansing Conditioner has proved to be a gentle and effective cleanser. I usually follow up with a combination Hydration Elation/hot oil 30 minute treatment and the results are very good. My hair looks and feels healthy and the hydration level improves with each hair care cycle.

This is a great cleaning conditioner. I have mostly 4A hair (my nape is 3C and the crown is 4B). I use this product as my mid-week cowash. It leaves my hair AND scalp very clean. I tend to experience flakiness or dry scalp when using cleansing conditioners and with this product I did not experience that. I love the ingredients of this product and will continue to use it.

How I use: I section my hair into 6-8 parts. I soak my hair in the shower then finger detangle. After this, I apply the product to each section, 2-strand twist that section, move onto the next section and repeat. Then, wait for a few minutes, untwist each section and allow the water to run through the section in order to remove the product.

Drawbacks: (1) Impractical container design - scooping out from a jar is cumbersome (counterargument: you'll probably get more bang for your buck by scooping). I am going to transfer the product to a different kind of container; and (2) I suspect that this product "relaxes" my curls - after a wash-n-go using this product, people asked me if I blew out my hair. I find this strange.

Overall: This is a great co-wash product. It's moisturizing while being a great cleanser. Thumbs up!

WTH, just WTH is this crap. As I AM should be re-labeled Crap in a JAR! Just don't waste your money 4C's buy a really good conditioner to co-wash. I cheat and use a ton of Aubrey's Honeysuckle and a dime size amount of clarifying shampoo to get my hair really clean. I like the squeky clean feel. My hair is still super soft and moisturized without the icky scalp build up. Would I recommend??? NO

I hate jars in the shower & it's not thick. Not quite sure the reasoning behind having this in a jar in the 1st place? That's just my hang up which I can fix- the product itself is awesome & being able to get at Sally's just love it!

This cowash is AWESOME! It was my first time using a product actually labeled a cowash and I loved it. I use an applicator bottle to focus on my scalp because I heard this product can be stripping. I had no problems with stripping and I used my tangle wrangler to work this through my hair once I massaged it into each section of my scalp. Then I rinsed and retwisted my hair. It is a very runny liquid so the bottle really helps reduce waste. I have no clue why this is in a jar at all. But oh well. I found a solution to that and this 16oz jar will probably last me months.

I use it as a shampoo and it provides moisture and lots of slip. Then I apply conditioner, I used the As I Am, deep conditioner, it was not so great but I will try it again to make sure. After these steps my hair is soooo soft and fluffy.

Were my hair and scalp clean? Yes. Did I get great slip? Not exactly. Do I find this to be a great co-wash to use without a conditioner? Not really. It is possible if you are on a budget. I did use this product as my cleanser and as my conditioner. Detangling was not as easy as expected, but was done. After the second rinse my hair was not as soft or silky as I am used to it being. I did style my hair as usual and get great results.
I have been spoiled by other cleansing conditioners that give me great slip, and butter soft hair before styling. Im not used to having to follow with a leave-in.

I have 2b hair (was 3b until two pregnancies wiped a lot of the curl from my hair) and I've been trying everything I can to coax the curls back. My scalp is sensitive and my hair tended to get seriously greasy within two days, requiring washing every morning, which of course is hard on it. I decided to cowash, hoping that by not stripping the moisture from my hair the oil glands would stop working so hard. Cowashing has worked wonderfully. I've been using As I Am coconut cowash for months now and I can easily go three to four days between washings, and my hair still doesn't get as greasy as it used to in one day. I love the way it smells, too (I love coconut scents). I use a lot and work it in really good, rubbing every inch of my scalp clean with my fingers, then comb it in from scalp to tips, gently detangling (this stuff makes my hair smooth and easy to detangle), and rinse. Though I use a lot each time, I don't use it nearly as often, so that balances out. I tried Wen Sweet Almond Mint cleansing conditioner, too, but it didn't work as good for me , I didn't like the smell, and it was a LOT more expensive. This stuff washes clean and leaves my hair so soft. I add a little bit of As I Am Leave In Conditioner (especially on the tips and sides where frizz tends to form) and I get smooth hair that isn't weighed down (very important in trying to get the curl back). I LOVE this stuff!.

I am able to detangle my 4a/4b hair with a wide tooth comb much easier than before. It smell wonderful and a little bit goes a long way. I love how it feels and makes my hair look after I wash. Highly recommend and will be using this product for a long time. So thankful I can find it in my neighborhood Walgreens and Sally Beauty supply stores. I LOVE this co-wash!!!!! It made my hair SO soft, smelled great and really did cleanse...but I did find because I have SO much hair and it's crazy thick, I have to use a shampoo (giovanni) first on my scalp then do a second wash with this product. the only draw back would be its a little too runny for me and its hard for me to get the product out of a jar - especially when I am washing my hair in the shower, water gets in and makes an already runny product way too thin. If they could just add a pump to the top, this would be awesome. Overall this is a great product especially for the price - I can go through a jar in two washes so I love that I am paying $8 vs. some of the competitors charging $30...

This has to be the worst product ever for my cowash. It has no slip for my hair and if you think about it castor oil is used as a sealant not in my washing process. That explains why it my stands would stick together and the texture of it was not smooth combined with the water. I have a jar of this mess at home that i will never touch again. I attempted two times, but I'm officially canceling this one out. Nice fancy looking jar....horrible ingredient combination

I really liked this product..great slip and did just what it said it would do!!!! I gave it a 4 curls because it was not memorable! I actually purchased this product 2 months ago and it did not leave enough of an impression to go back! It is a great value, so I know that if I run short of a staple product I like, then I will purchase it then!

I received a sample kit from As I am last week and I was ecstatic to try this product. It indeed met my expectation and it exceeded it. The product smells like mangoes and Baby Magic. It smells soooo good! The consistency is thicker than normal conditioner but it slides on the hair very well and feels great working into the scalp. After rinsing the product out of my hair, my hair felt like it had a sealant on it, like a protective coat that was locking in the moisture. I don't know what that was about, but my hair loved it. I'm definitely throwing out all other conditioners I use for cowashing. This is my stand alone product for that purpose.
I have 4a hair styled in a TWA since my big chop on 6/29/12.

I love this co-wash, and so does my 4 year old daughter! We both have hair that gets so tangled so easily sometimes we have to cut out the balled-up snarls. My poor daughter absolutely dreads having her hair cleansed, and when she finally gets over the stress from the cleanse, I hate to have to go through the torture again by adding a conditioner. My daughter's scalp is sensitive, and she always cried when her hair was being washed and combed. We both dreaded "hair wash" day. When I wash my daughter's hair with Coconut Co-wash, it feels like silk in her coarse hair, and I don't need to use a detangler rinse afterwards. I can comb this co-wash through her hair without any resistance, and this rinses quickly and easily, so there's less risk of hair getting snarled up during the rinse. This co-wash is so smooth and easy, she barely seems to notice I'm washing her hair. As I Am Co-Wash winds up being more cost-effective than Ouidad's No Time for Tears and No More Knots, because it's a 2-in1. The coconut smells delicious, too!

I really wanted to love this product I was so excited about it but my hair hated it. I was excited to use it but the first time I tried it when I rinsed it out my hair was so dry and hair the second time it started to tangle as soon as I put it on. I have 4c hair but everytime I try something that many other 4c rave about my hair hates it, and everything other 4c hate my hair ends up loving it. IDK my hair is just weird. I had to return it.

I L-O-V-E this product! My daughter and I did the BIG chop a year ago, and tried other products - but just let me say, I was not a fan of co-washing, I thought I needed the suds for a clean hair & scalp. But somehow my daughter convinced me to incorporate co-washing in my hair regimen and let me tell you… I have never looked back since! I now shampoo once a month; we have 4b, c type hair and this has done miracles for us! Not to mention the smell –OMG heavenly :D

I am a former Wen user with long, fine hair. This product is very much like Wen, only a fraction of the price. I've found that with either cleansing conditioner, you have to use enough product in order for it to work correctly. So many of us that are used to conventional shampoo tend to use a small amount - not so with these products. You need to wet your hair and apply a generous amount and massage it in. Comb it through with a wide-tooth comb and leave it on for a few minutes. Then re-wet your hair and massage again. THEN rinse thoroughly. You'll find that it not only cleans, but leaves all but the driest of hair nicely conditioned. If you need extra conditioning (I do in the winter!), apply As I Am leave-in conditioner.

Loved the smell and was excited to try this new cowash, since I've been a WEN girl for a few yrs but the product is pricey. Unfortunately this product left my 3a/b hair very dry and unmanageable. I'm use to running my fingers thur to detangle and was unable to do so I tried it a few times to make sure I didn't get a different result, but it was Austin the same

I'm new to co-washing my hair, and just did a BC mid-august, so I don't have a lot of experience with conditioners at this point. I also don't have a whole lot of hair to detangle in the shower. However, I am a big fan of this conditioner already as it smells fantastic (I'm always a fan of coconut) and it leaves my hair feeling clean but not squeaky. As a beginner to the CG method, this is an excellent place to start!

I just did a BC in mid-August to get a handle on wearing my natural curls, so I don't have a lot of hair to worry about de-tangling at this point. This is good stuff!

I'm in love with this line. For the price, it does as much if not more than any other product I've used. The Cleasing Conditioner smells great and leaves my hair as soft as any conditioner as well as clean. I started with the daily moisturizer & then started with the co-wash. After about 2-3 months, I've started using the leave in conditioner. I was previously using kinky curly and then "nothing but" which I didn't care for at all. I'm using more and more of the AS I Am line every month. My hair and scalp tend to be very dry, but not with these products.

I as many reviewers had the itchy scalp going on and I used this baby like a shampoo and no more itchiness :D plus a little goes a long way..unfortunately I am finding that out when I am done with the product and not in the beginning, but I will definitely repurchase! Anything with coconut oil gets a thumbs up (unless it is full of unnatural ingredients)!

The smell- awesome. Makes me hungry. The amount you get in a jar- also awesome. I've had this for months, accidentally spilled about half of it and STILL have a bunch left. It goes a long way. Wait. The jar's got to go, though. Can they bottle or tube it? Price- right.

Did it do its job? I'd say so. My hair feels super clean after I use this product , but so much it feels stripped, so that's great. It gives great slip and to consistency is great, nice and thick, not soupy and getting all over the place. Love, love, love it!

Smells good. Consistency is a little thin, creamy yet it does sud up a bit. Does the job as far as removing product buildup if you don't want to use shampoo. Lots of slip. -1star because you do need to put in another conditioner after you rinse this one out or else your hair will be a little dry. Also I wish it were in a bottle and not a jar, or maybe a larger sized jar; I bought 3 jars which is kind of annoying.

I love the fact that its water based so its not sticky or tacky feeling, the smell is very pleasant but not overpowering. Follow the directions (trust me)! I stuck my head under the shower and just let my hair get wet for 2-3 minutes before cowash, then used the product like you would a shampoo. And I rinsed it thoroughly out of my hair. One problem I had been having was itchy scalp - THIS STUFF CURED IT!! My hair felt soft, curls are defined. Definitely will be a staple in my regimen!!! Super happy :D

I really like this product. I bought it at my local sally's for about $10 bucks here in Puerto Rico. It's 16 oz which is the amount of my old sulfate free shampoo and conditioner combined, and for a fraction of the price! It smells really nice and like coconut. It feels like what it is, washing your hair with conditioner, but my hair felt squeaky clean, but not rough like it would feel with a sulfate product. Really, all you need is the pressure from the water in the shower and to gently massage the product to your scalp. Just distribute it to the rest of your hair with help from the water and your fingers (I don't use combs, my fingers are sufficient). The only reason why I don't give it a 5 is because it doesn't leave me an obnoxious slip, which I strangely love. Jaja

I smelled more citrus and less coconut, which I loved! It left my hair so moisturized, I was almost tempted to leave it in my hair all day.
