I really really really REALLY love this stuff! I have tried what seems like every shampoo in the book and I never really got the results I wanted until I came across DevaCurl. I can't use sulfates because it is so drying, but sulfate free shampoos don't get the product out of my hair. It seemed like I never won and I was in an endless battle with my hair. With this, you get to have your cake and eat it too! It is sulfate free, but it has a mild lathering detergent so I can make my hair squeaky clean! Love love love!

ugh I wanted to love this loo poo because I absolutely love DevaCurl One Condition. If it wasn't for the HORRIBLE chemical smell I think I would have. I'm not usually one to disregard a product because of its smell but this one was overpowering. My whole bathroom stunk and even my 2nd day hair smelled faintly of it, gave me a headache. Will be returning my bottle to Ulta.

I needed a new low-poo for my hair and bought this since it was in-stock at the salon. A lot of people seem to like it, but it's just not for me. Background: I have 2a hair that I wash every other day. I've been mostly sulfate free for a year, but I'm kind of new to the whole CG routine. This is the fourth sulfate free shampoo I've tried.
This shampoo does provide a mild lather in your hands, but not much on your head (I think you'd have to use a TON of product to get a really good lather... if that's what you want).
Others have mentioned the fragrance. There is a rather distinctive smell, that I at first didn't care for, but I don't mind it too much now. It kind of reminds me of licorice or those DOTS candies.
My main issue with this shampoo is that it leaves a residue on my scalp and hair. I've been using it just over a week, and I'm really trying to give it a chance to work, but it's not looking good. After using it late last night, I woke up this morning to gunky hair: I couldn't tell if my head was still damp or greasy.
If you're looking for a new low-poo, I wouldn't completely rule this one out. Lots of people really like it. I'm just not one of them.

I love this stuff! My absolute holy grail low poo. My scalp always feels clean, but not stripped, and my hair feels really moisturized. It even helps with detangling. Seriously love this stuff.

A few years ago, I gave up DevaCurl to try a more natural product, but poor performance has caused me to come back to the DevaCurl line. I heard they changed the Low-Poo formula a bit, so I when I went to Ulta, I checked the ingredients list and opened the bottle a little to see if they had changed the smell...Yuuuuuckkkk! It was the worst chemical smell I have ever experienced in a hair care product. It made me woozy, and my head ached for a few minutes. I tried another bottle, in case that was a bad batch. More of the same. I bought the No-fade Low-Poo version instead, which was more similar to the old orange creamsicle smell. What is DevaCurl thinking? I really hope they change the scent.

I'm still not yet sold on this product. I use it after I have to use oil type treatments on my scalp for my scalp psoriasis so to wash it completely out. It definitely feels more drying, but that is expected. I don't like the scent as much as the 'no poo.' It smells like orange gatorade.

I have fine hair and live in a dry climate. Most shampoos dry my hair out. I was visiting family and my great granddaughter with very curly hair uses Deva Lowpoo shampoo. I tried it and am thrilled. My hair benefits so much from Deva products. I also use the conditioner. Great product for straight fine hair and reasonably priced

I used to LOVE, absolutely ADORE low poo! Unfortunately, Deva decided to change the formulation and whatever they've done has absolutely RUINED it!!!!!!!

I was using a bottle that was purchased in October (from Ulta) and it was WONDERFUL - left my 3c corkscrews so soft, elastic and bouncy with absolutely no frizz! I just got a new bottle for Christmas and couldn't believe what came out of the bottle. It looked and smelled the same but it barely lathered (I had to use a lot more) and left my hair hard, dry, knotted and frizzy (after conditioning and styling/drying). I was so taken aback! I then used the very last dregs I could squeeze out of a travel bottle that I had previously filled from my old bottle of low poo and, ta-da! - bouncy, soft, elastic curls, so it wasn't just my imagination!

I even RETURNED and exchanged the new bottle thinking maybe I somehow got an adulterated batch, but no luck! My sister even tried a THIRD new bottle and she had the same result as me - hard, knotty, straw-like hair - the complete opposite of our results with previous bottles of low-poo.

DEVA - I have no idea WHAT you have done to the low-poo, but you have completely destroyed the best cleansing product my hair had EVER seen! I so wish I had stocked up on big bottles of it this past summer, but of course I couldn't have anticipated this.

What a huge disappointment. I will never buy this again. This new formulation is HORRIBLE. Absolute junk. Looks like my search begins again for a 'curly girl' cleanser that will give me good results.

This product started out great, but after using it for a week, it left my fine, 2C hair super, super limp - and I could NOT squeeze out a second day, had to wash daily. I used it today after taking 4 days break from it, and my hair started coming out in massive clumps! When I tried to follow up with the Devacare conditioner, I felt like I had just dumped alcohol all over my hair - instant hair freeze, horrible mats, and it took me over 20 minutes to comb out the knots. I have had the same experience with the Arc Angell and B'leave in, too. I rewashed with another shampoo and conditioner to get the mats and tangles out, and this stuff is going back to the store where I bought it. Really disappointed :(

I use this only once a week before my hair treatments. It is great as a gentle hair clarifying shampoo for wavy, curly, or coily hair. It lathers but it is not damaging at all. It smells very nice and when I rinse it out, it surprisingly makes my hair feel soooooooooooooo soft! Very nice and will continue to buy it. It is great for those with a normal to oily scalp, so for us with a drier scalp, just use it once a week!

I am a 2b/2c (in Deva land I am an S Wave with some corkscrew curls in the back) - heck I have a little bit of everything going on, likely because I have grey coming in. Top of my hair is flatter wavier, sides and back curly.

So that means I strike a delicate balance between enough moisture on the sides/back and not too much on top, or it will lay flat.

I have been using this shampoo for about 8 weeks, and really like it. Some information points:

-> I have my hair colored, and I think it does a very good job of preserving color.
-> I follow the Deva Curly Girl handbook in terms of how to use the shampoo - I wash every day (I can't seem to get the 2 day washing to work, that everyone else can - makes me look like a muppet, even though I don't have greasy hair), but I use a SMALL amount, about the size of a quarter. I apply it to the pads of my fingers, and work it through my scalp. Then I scrunch a bit all over, and rinse it out by cupping my hands.
-> I does not seem to be overydrying when I do it that way, and I wash every day

A bottle of this stuff used as I do, will last forever. I am only a 1/4 of the way through the first bottle I bought, and it has been 8 weeks.

Meanwhile the One conditioner I blow through pretty quickly.

I recommend this - I like the scent (It seems to smell like St. Joseph's children's aspirin - if you can remember that smell). Citrusy. Works well. Sticking with it.

If I wash my hair with nothing but water for 2 days, this gives me just the clean I need to cure me from feeling cheap & greasier than Rob Schneider. However I can't use this everyday as it gives me 90's power-mom fluff hair. Which is a sweet suggestion but I'm not really ready for that kindof commitment, barely in my 20's, and time travel doesn't exist just yet.

This is the best shampoo I've used so far.
It leaves my hair feeling moisturized and soft, I've never once felt stripped of any oils or moisture.
It really get's my hair clean, and although it took some adjustment to really not experience much lather, I really really like this product. It's fantastic! Smell's wonderful too!

My hair is super healthy and I have an oily scalp. I really like this product because it is one of the few that cleanses the oil off my scalp, and yet doesn't strip my hair. This product is STILL one of my staples and I use it often. In the summer, I don't use a conditioner afterward, just a leave-in. My hair is fine, super soft and slick, so I get OC'd very easy.

I’m terribly disappointed with DevaCurl. I spent so much time researching products and was looking forward to hopefully finding the right one….NOT so! I have 3c/4a type hair and this shampoo made my hair feel so dry and very straw like, I was baffled. I’ve only used it once and terrified to try it again. Prior to DevaCurl I used Surface Vegan Hair Products and Mixed Chicks…on to something different now. I hope I can get a refund.

I had serious build up, from using a Pureology Shampoo(for anyone else considering, Pureology is not vegan, and is only sulfate free..silicones and parabens are still in the ingredients)

Anyways, due to the silicones in Pureology my build up got so bad my scalp was always over conditioned, and heavy.
My hair stylist used Deva Low Poo just one time, and the build up that had been there for months, was almost gone...
With further use, the build IS gone.

I can say this, it is not drying or stripping...and I have extremely dry hair. It leaves the perfect balance of moisture without weighing hair down. I am giving three curls because of the parabens and amodemithcone left in the shampoo..but so far I have had no issues.
The price, in my opinion, is average for curlmart's products and worth the pricetag for what it has to offer.

I love this in combination with the DC One condition. I've been using it for about 6 months now (along with a deep condition 1-2/month). My hair doesn't feel super soft after using it, but it does look/feel hydrated and healthy. I use re:coil after washing/conditioning and I hardly ever experience frizz (I think the only case of frizz I had was when I was on the beach). I also love that my hair requires such a small amount of this product, which means the big bottle I bought of it will last me for a long time and I feel like I'm really getting my money's worth. Although since it doesn't lather, I sometimes use a bit more than what I really need. I think I'll switch to No-Poo, though, once my Low-Poo runs out.

I can't believe how much I hated this product. After years of using Jessicurl HCC I decided to give Devacurl a try. I never should have. Low-Poo dried my hair out as much as the harshest clarifying shampoo. I can't believe how popular Devacurl products are when so many curlies find them to be so drying. Ah the power of marketing!

Smells heavenly. I like to mix this with ACV to clean my scalp and get rid of residue. Even got my mom who isn't natural hooked on this product. Feels almost silky when applied and doesn't strip hair.

It's not terrible, but sometimes it left my hair feeling a little weird. However, that could have been because I was using WAY too much of the product. I tried again two days ago and had no problems. So, now that I've cut down on how much to apply time will tell if this is a shampoo I will continue to use or not.

My hair has never looked better... but it wasn't without struggle. My scalp took awhile to adjust to the new low-poo. I use the low-poo, conditioner, and gel. My scalp was really itchy off and on for the first month. I did a brown sugar scrub twice and it really helped. It is worth it to get past the first few weeks. My hair looks fantastic. My hair is in such great shape! I got my haircut in May by a Deva specialist and don't need another cut anytime soon. My ends are great.

Its great for the scalp, a little drying for the hair, so put some One Condition on your hair to protect it, and keep this stuff on the scalp only. If I don't condition before using it, I'll follow with a deep treatment.

I wish there was a product that was somewhere between Low Poo and No Poo.

Once I stopped expecting the handfuls of lather that result from typical "detergent" shampoos, I realized that this product was not only cleaning my curls, but leaving them soft and nicely tamed. I am new to Devacurl, but I'm quickly developing a loyalty!

This was too mild for me. I could get away using it now and then but more than a couple of weeks and my hair got really greasy feeling even if I left it in to work on the oils for well over 5 minutes and massaged my scalp like crazy.
Well worth a try for people with a dry scalp and hair. Smells heavenly.

This is the grossest shampoo I have ever used. I understand the concept about this line and did some research regarding it, so I knew what to expect. Even the guy I was dating asked me if I had taken a shower in 2 days because my hair looked so greasy. I really thought I had discovered something new, but atlas it has just joined my other hair care product graveyard under my sink. I did buy the conditioner and gel as well. It is OK, nothing special.

This product has a nice feel. It really busts up the excess oil on the scalp w/o stripping, especially for those doing CG. My scalp is oily anyway and being on CG sometimes it's just too much, and this doesn't strip away everything. It's a nice consistency and the scent isn't overpowering. It has a tiny bit of lather which is nice too.

Posted by Meezer (Type 3a) on 10/15/2004

This product actually cotains a mild cleansing agent (cocamidopropyl betaine) and is basically on par with Jessicurl's Hair Cleansing Cream. It will definitely cleanse your hair of at least some mild "gunk". It has a wonderful, delicious scent (just like the Angell). For true CG'ers, I would recommend that you coat the length of your hair with conditioner and then use this on your scalp and let the suds 'rinse' down the length of your hair.

I like this, and it works well. Unfortunately, you have to use A LOT to get it through your hair and it's so thin it's hard to work with. And don't expect lather.

Cleans well and works quite nicely as a gentle shampoo, but is somewhat difficult to distribute through the hair and over the scalp since it is somewhat thick and has such a small amount of lather.
