at first i didn't like it bc it made my hair hard while it was wet so i thought it would make it hard when it was it was dry and that was not the case at all , i used super fruit mask as a leave in , follow up with the super fruit oil , and then put a pump in each section and i air dried my air for about 45 minutes then diffused my hair on high heat medium speed and my hair was the most defined its EVER been, shiny and soft and stayed that way for 6 days

This is the only product from Jane Carter line that I have used, so I only can speak on this particular product. I first used this product 12/26/2014 only to result in a severe skin reaction. I am still after 30 days 02/01/15 recovering from a neck to feet reaction from this product. My hair is kinky but not kinky enough on the ends and I wanted more curl at the ends as my hair grows. I am so paranoid of any products now due to all the hype with natural ingredients. I want natural products for my natural hair, but who can be trusted when receiving $$$ for a product that does more harm then good. This is occurring across the board with hair products sending women & men to the hospital. PPB is a major problem. When will this end?

I love this product. Just to describe I have coarse 4a/4b hair. I use this when doing twist outs. This is one of the rare products I have found that detangles my hair with ease. I hardly notice any hair when using my pik to detangle when using to twist set my hair. I do mist my hair first with water/moisture prior to using this product. I live in a dry climate but when I used in high humid conditions (such as a city next to ocean), my hair did become frizzy as it did not dry as fast as it usually does. However, I typically live in dry conditions, so this product is great. If you are someone that twists their hair every night I would recommend this as it minimizes breakage.

Loved it. Really awesome defining, nice shine/sheen, great hold no crush. WILL NOT REPURCHASE. Just too d*mn expensive. WOULD USE AGAIN? Yes, in a heartbeat…if someone other than myself bought this insanely priced product. Oh!, the smell is overpowering, you have been warned.

This was a really nice product. It left my 3c/4a hair shiny with zero frizz and my hair continued to look great well into the week. My only complaint would be the smell which is citrus-y along the lines of Lemon Pledge. The smell wasn't so bad as to turn me off of the product, though. Will stock up on more when it goes on sale.

I bought this on a whim at Target, figuring if it didn't work out, I could just return it.

Even though it's applied to wet hair, and my hair drips dry, it doesn't take much longer to dry than it did before I started using this.

This one jar has taken me from four products (leave-in, mousse, top cream and sometimes hair spray) to ONE!

My hair is super-soft, the curls stay defined all day. I love this cream!

After washing and conditioning or co-washing I rake this through soaking my wet 4a/3c hair and then wrap in a micro-towel for 10+ minutes. Just shake and go or sit under the dryer for 10 minutes. When my hair is dry, it's SUPER shiny and my curls are well defined with light hold. I've been able to achieve 2nd day hair and even a 3rd day updo with minimal frizz. I also use this to twist my daughter's 4b hair, which results in super shiny twists. With a moisturizer underneath hair feels good for 3-4 days; however, when used alone hair will start to feel dry in about 2 days. Also, I can't say I agree with the elongation properties. Scent is okay, not complaining though.

Tried it for a wash and go and while it defined my curls it didn't provide much hold. Have primarily been using it for twists and twist-outs and it does provide moisture and definition but not any better than products that are cheaper.

i like this product for my 4a/b type hair. Defined my curls for my wash n go's and added moisture to my 2nd 3rd and 4th day hair when styling. Only issue with product is hair seemed to dry out throughout day. When product is put in hair during styling or bed time it gives hair a soft and moisturized feel. Helped eliminate my shrinkage as well.

I really wanted to like this product but it did not work on my hair. It left my hair rather dry and didn't define my curls at all. I didn't care for the scent either. :-(

Pros: This made my hair super soft the first day. Cons: My curls weren't defined really, in fact they separated more than they normally do. The second day, my hair was hard and very dull looking and I ended up having to wash it out. And it doesn't play well with others. Creates white clumps when used with my other go to stylers and leave ins.

I wanted to love this cream styler because I'm looking for a cheaper and more touchable alternative to my staple KCCC (I buy the largest size). The cons outweigh the pros. Not a win for me.

I love this stuff as a detangler! When applied to wet hair I can finger detangle with ease and it does define my curl pattern very well. If I use this alone it does leave my hair a bit hard so I usually add a milk or butter on top. For me this works best as a detangler/leave in. When I use this alone it my curls tend to separate rather than clump, which is fine since I use it as detangler.

I give it 4/5 curls because of the smell but I LOVE this product. It definitely defines my curls and my hair stays moisturized. It's expensive but worth it. Also I get a good 2nd day hair out of this product, sometimes 3 or 4!

I love this stuff!!! I am 6 months into my natural hair transition. I am using a synthetic half curly wig to support my Diva look as I transition ( and as a protective hair style). That said, I leave a small section of my hair out in the front and use rods to set the curl. I use Jane's defining curling cream to separate the curls ( at the root) and to provide moisture to my hair. This style lasts for about 5 days until resetting is required! It smells great and I love the organic vibe to boot!

Price of this is steep, in my opinion, but I really like this product and would rebuy given there is a good sale. Took me a while to figure out how to best use this for my hair and realized that it's best used as a styler with a leave in underneath for wash-n-go's. Gives me three-four day hair and it has a firm hold (I cannot determine from the ingredients where the hold is coming from). I have not used this with other products from this line however most of my creamy based leave-ins work just fine with this when used on damp/wet hair. Minimizes frizz (doesn't eliminate), slight elongation, great clumping action and slightly moisturized hair (this really depends on the leave in I use i.e. Curl Junkie smoothing lotion, BWC leave in, kinky curly knot today, Alaffia beautiful curls leave in, etc.). Hope this helps someone.

another jane carter product that i took curls off due to the smell. i wish her products didnt smell so strong and herbally because they do perform great. i used this cream on both wet and dry hair. it didnt elongate my curls (which is fine) but it left them nicely defined, super shiny & NO FRIZZ!!! i did notice in wet hair it took my hair even longer to air dry. i also used it on 3rd day hair following her leave in and it helped to moisturize my hair and again aid in shine and help puffiness go away. i like that it is natural and silicone free. i would really love this if the smell was better.

An okay product. If there was no other product for me to buy, I'd get this and be somewhat satisfied. It's pretty good with moisture I guess but I wouldn't say it necessarily DEFINES my curls. I don't mind the smell and funny thing is I remember loving this product before I knew how to properly do wash and goes. I guess it was the best product I was using, I might need to try it again on full wash and go but whenever I do tests on small sections of hair, it doesn't work well.

My favorite creamy styler! Works amazingly all by itself. The first day, I get very shiny very defined coils. It's always a little shrunken. The second day is perfect! It's still shiny, soft, and moisturized, but just a little fluffier.

I have 3b-3c hair and this product did NOT work for me. I am sure it would work for someone with wavy hair to crunch your hair. It really did not do anything for my hair. I love Jane Carter shampoo and conditioner, but this product was too weak to do anything with my hair. It did not leave my hair in any form rather than what it would normally be at.

I got this in the travel kit and boy am I glad I only got the travel size. It does leave the hair shiny and healthy looking but DRY. The crunch seemed like I used a heavy gel and no moisturizer. The smell is way too strong and doesn't dissipate..gave me a headache and I had to rewash.

I purchased the 8oz. container for $14.00 at Target, after watching a few reviews on YouTube. Additionally I had already tried the JCS Nourish & Shine which all by itself makes my hair feel like cotton, lol. So I figured why not give this a shot too?

Let me tell you, my hair LOVES this product.
    1) At first the scent was interesting, though over time I've become used to it and I actually love the citrus-y smell.
    2) The consistency of this product reminds me of a hair lotion, which I didn't expect much out of but GGGUUUURRLLL (haha!) when I applied this cream to my "very wet hair" as the directions state, I got MAJOR slip!!! I mean I was actually able to finger detangle through my Type 4 a,b,c textured hair with a breeze using this cream.
    3) Adding the Nourish & Shine on top the Curl Defining Cream my hair life! And what I like about these products is that despite how "strong" the scents may appear to be, the scents never overpower my nose or in my hair either.
    4) Usually I tend to apply a leave-in conditioner underneath whatever cream/styler in order to get the perfect amount of moisture, however with this prodcut I don't...sooo that's really impressive, lol.
    5) Something I noticed; when I apply this onto very wet hair, I get a lot of slip and I don't need to use as much per section/twist. However if I apply the cream onto dry hair I notice that I dip back into the container more often - which isn't a bad thing, but if you want to prolong the life this container it might be better or you to use less per section. Less is more with this product.

Overall great product, and JCS products are a new staple for me!

I like this product! The smell of it was annoyingly familiar, until my sister pointed out that it smells exactly like Fruit Loops cereal, that mildly lemony and strong fruity smell. The smell wears off after a while, though and I don't mind it too much.

The product wasn't that moisturizing for me, so I have to use a leave-in first (Giovanni direct leave-in), but it has excellent hold and great shine. Depending on my leave in, it doesn't dry hard. I love it for my twist outs as well as my wash and go.

I still consider myself a newly natural girl (1 year & 2 months post big chop) so I am constantly looking for new products that give my hair that WOW factor and this product does that and more! For my twistouts, I put it on my hair after I apply my leave-in without sealing it with oil, because this product is a great moisturizer in itself. I never have to seal with oil which is a plus because I HATE producty, oily hair. When I take it out the next morning, I have the prettiest, most defined curls I have ever had! Not to mention, my hair shines so beautifully and the hair easily separates without causing frizziness and a fro-ish look. My hair looks as if I just got a roller set and all I did was twist it. I can’t stop bragging about it! Go pick it up NOW!

Purchased this product at the local Target. (8 oz jar $14.99) I have been searching for the last 6 years for the right product for my daughters 4a/b hair. This is the only product that does not make her hair greasy or wet feeling. It worked great for twp-stand twists. It controlled her edges that always tend to creep away from the rest of the hair and curl up. Made her hair super soft. I am too thankful that I found this product. Best product for her hair.!!!

If I could give this no stars I would. One of my costliest and completely useless PJ buys to date. No stretch, dried dull and seemed to suck the moisture right out of my hair. Second day hair? Forget it. Head full of flakes. Seriously disappointed.

I received a free sample of this product and this stuff is a no no for me. The first thing I didn't like about this stuff was the smell. It has a strong lemon scent to and it reeks. There is no way I would want anyone close to my hair with a smell like this coming out of it. The second thing I didn't like was the dryness it caused my hair to have. Yes my curls were defined but my hair looked dry also. Once I left my house my hair was nice and bouncy and an hour later it was bouncy and dry looking. I don't think I will be using this product again and definitely not spending thirty dollars on it.

Me- Type 4A. Natural for 3 years, responsibly natural for 1 year.
Rating- Took 1 curl away for price, 1 curl away for smell, 1 curl away because it didnt work for me
Smell- Smells like the shampoo and conditioner with a slight eucalyptus or mint smell. Still hate the smell.
Makes My Hair Feel Like- Dry, stripped and in need of moisture
Pros- I like the pump on top, thats useful!
Cons- Didnt do anything for my hair. Dryed it out, hair shrunk, got flakes and the smell overpowering wouldnt go away.
Remarks- Again this product is light. I think it should be used in the summer time for heat and humidity. This along with the rest of the line that i have reviewed has dryed my hair out, making my hair feel stripped since using the shampoo. I even got flakes and my hair itched on occassion. The smell is overpowering. I used the cream along with the leave in to keep it moist to do twists. When you apply it it feels slick at first but then it drys up really fast. I tested it on my hands. When i applied some to my hands it felt slick and slippery like gel but it immediately absorbed into my hands and then my hands felt firm. It didnt feel dry but felt rough. I ran my hands under the water and the slick gooey slipper feeling came back. I think it is meant to absorb into the cuticle providing a layer of stiff protection but does not make my hair soft or anything. If you already have long curl defined hair, and are looking for a light wash in go and dont need moisture this may work for.

This JC product worked okay on freshly shampooed , but next day hair was limp and greasy and it smelled like Pledge furniture polish. Considering the price and the bother of a return process I used it. This wouldn't be something I would order angain. I wish these companies offer samples.

My natural hair stylist used this on my hair after she colored my hair. The do turned out fine, but it felt a little dry to me. I thought OK, it's probably the color, my hair is always dry after color. It wasn't the color. When I washed my hair the next week with my As I Am Naturally products, it had returned to it's usual state, soft and shiny. Since I wanted to use what my stylist used on my hair I went out and purchased the JC hydrating shampoo, conditioner, leave in and curl defining cream (I will leave reviews on the other products on their respective sights). I thought this would be the best thing to do for my hair. Main was I ever wrong. It wasn't the color. It was the the Jane Carter products. This particular curl defining cream does not do what it says for highly textured 4b hair. It does not reduce shrinkage. My hair did not dry soft. It was horrid. Mind you I am following the instructions to a "T". If your hair is highly textured, shrinks to more than 1/2 it's length when you wash and hold water like a sponge, this is not the product for you. This product does not leave you hair smooth. It may work for 4a hair, but I found the As I Am to work much better 4b.

My stylist uses this on my hair in the salon and I was surprised at the results.
She uses this along with a light gel/serum (PM Round Trip) and I get great finger coils every time.
The style lasts for an entire week but I feel it loses its "umph" quicker than other products that I use when I do my own hair. I think that my stylist may need to use more product on my hair to make sure its throughly coated to prolong the "umph".
But this is a moisturizing product and has an OK smell.
I've not purchased this due to the fact that I'd prefer to start with a smaller tube before investing in this large tub. With the Fall/Winter months coming, this is one product that I will keep my eye on.

This product showed a lot of promise when I first applied it to my wet 3C hair but when it dried it turned into a frizzy curly mess. Not to mention it felt like straw. There's not much curl definition but I'll give it at least 1 curl for the scent.

This product didn't really do anything for my hair. It looked like it was going to define and leave it shiny and moisturized but it felt dry and straw-like once it dried. The smell was nauseating. I had a huge headache after smelling it being in my hair for a few hours and was completely turned off because of that. The smell should be more subtle like the shampoo/conditioner.

Good curl definition and shine. I only gave it 4 curls because I still had some frizz and the second day hair was even frizzier. I love the smell, but it is strong and lingering. Make sure you like the scent before you purchase. Price is pretty steep also.

I only gave this product a 2 curls because it did not do for me what it claimed to do - eliminate shrinkage. My curls still shrank as normal leaving me smaller than normal, dry curls. I first tried just the cream on clean well conditioned hair but found that gave me serious frizzies so I paired it with a Curl Junkie as a thicker leave-in and Kinky Curly and had better results. After several rounds of experimenting with various product combinations with this cream, I have yet to achieve the bouncy, soft curls that the product promises. I will not repurchase this product.

I ordered this product because I am a product junkie as well. I am pretty impressed with the curl definition and softness of my hair. It only elongated my curls a little bit. I used as a styler over CJ Smoothing lotion as a leave in--the 2 combined reduced the volume of very big hair I normally get and very very defined, smoothe frizz less curls! I think I have find my daily routine! I have tried a lot of products and these 2 products are really good!!

I order this product because I'm such a product junkie. I was actually quite impressed with the results, my hair was moisturized, it produced soft defined curls and it had the best sheen I have ever had in any product this far. A little of the product goes a long way, so don’t use a lot. I gave it four stars because it did not elongate my curls, other than that it’s a STAPLE product of mine now. Don’t believe the bad reviews just try it for yourself..
