this stuff is soooooooo freakin awesome . I use it with kckt leavein and the duo is amazingggggg ! I have low porosity , densely packed hair also . the one down side is that it costs a wopping 13 bucks for a four ounce , although a little does go a long way . also the smell is to die for !!!!! it smells like caramel pecan pie to me . if someone hugs you , theyd think your hair was made of pastry ! gives my two strand twists great hold and shine and locks in the moisture good . I love love love it !

It was ok I guess. I don't really use pomaded so I am not sure if it's the bees knees. A little goes a long way an it has a really heavy burnt substance type scent which took almost the whole day to go away. I wouldn't buy it again simply because I really don't style my hair using pomade that much.

This product only gets 3 stars from me because of the scent. Excellent ingredients and a smooth shimmery texture but a big "thumbs down" for the smell. It was waaaaay too sugary sweet smelling for my taste. I didn't use it because i knew i couldn't tolerate that smell in my hair and wanted it un-used for the return. I returned it and purchased the Sugar Berries scent instead, haven't received it yet but i think i will like it better. :)

At first I didn't like the smell, it smells like The Amber Romance fragrance at Victoria Secret. After a week the smell grew on me although it is very strong. It lays down the edges beautifully. Most edge control products contain water but this is all oil and a little wax. I also use it with the Kinky Curly Knot Today for my wash n go...soft moisturized wash n go.

For some reason it takes Curl Mart a while to ship Oyin products (almost a week).

I like to use this pomade to give some hold to my twist outs or to keep my fade looking neat. I like to use a little of the pomade with Oyin handmade whipped pudding to keep my hair moisturized and sealed in the winter. When I use the two together, my hair stays softer and moisturized.

Hey all! I purchased a sample size of this product a few months ago to test it out on my loose natural hair. It's a great pomade, I LOVE the smell and it doesn't linger too much...even if it did I'd still love it. Plus I got a soft but decent hold which is just what I wanted. Now a few months later I have starter locs. I recently washed one of my locs just for the purpose of retwisting my hair with this pomade, and turns out I STILL love this product! Again I received a nice hold without the hard crunchy results from hair gels. Additionally this pomade doesn't contain beeswax which is a MAJOR plus for those w/ locs who don't want to deal with build-up issues. I'll definitely purchase a larger size of the Burnt Sugar Pomade!

I wasn't impressed with the texture of the product, but it smelled great and melted in my palms well. I combined this with the Camille Rose twisting butter which worked really well for me. Since I have a blonde overall color in my hair, I need these great oils in this product to penetrate my hair shaft and keep them strong. However, after 4 days (in combination with the CR twisting butter) there is some oil build up. However, my hair still looks amazing and after 4 months of product trials and tribulations I am finally figuring out the right mix for my blonde colored 3c curls. This is a good product, just wish it was a bit smoother to apply.

The scent is a little strong and lingering. I tried this with a braid out (on a blow dried hair) and used Eco Styler clear for added hold. It was very pretty and shiny, but didn't last very long. I will next try it on freshly co-washed hair.

My hair is extremly dry and coarse. I typically use the L.O.C method (liquid, oil, sealing cream) to moisturize my hair. This pomade is the Truth.com! I simply dampen my hair with aloe vera juice use the oil or cream of my choice and then use a dab of this! My hair has never been known to be super shiny, but this product provides shine, hold and can be used as a great sealent!

My favorite pomade. Was looking for a silicone free pomade and this is my answer. Smells yummy. It pairs perfect with the oyin shin and define serum. I use this on dry hair to help temporarily mend together my spilit ends and will also run it lightly down my all my hair to help with that halo of frizz

Burnt sugar kept my hair moisturized and fantabulous for a week and that's HARD to do in Colorado! I co-washed with Tresemme conditoner followed by My Honey Child Coconut Papaya Paste and Oyin Honey Hemp detangling and moisturizing conditioner. The results were picture worthy! I wanted to renew my driver's license! It made the abuse my hair gets from riding in my convertible non-existent! So many women complimented me on my hair. I was finally on the other side of hair envy. The Burnt Sugar Pomade was the only thing I needed to seal my hair. It's phenomenal! Definitely a keeper! Thank you Oyin! You made me a rock star! I'LL BE BACK FOR A VAT OF THAT! <3

I love this pomade and it's now a staple for me. The pomade has a delicious a brown sugar scent. I'm a 4a/b and this product is a terrific "hair grease" and sealant. Since the product lasts quite awhile (about a month for me) with daily use, I think it is worth every cent.

This pomade is sort of heavy, but this makes it last a long time because a little goes a long way. The scent is not for everyone, but it IS for me! Love it! Great shine. My hair is a dark, ashy brown...very hard to shine. This pomade does it for me. Just the right amount of healthy sheen. Not unaturally shiny like patent leather. Just a nice, healthy sheen.

Best. Frizz control. Ever. I love this. I use it as the finisher to my daily hair routine, and it keeps my curls spirally and my frizz on the minimum. I can rub it into my scalp a little, helping with dry scalp; I even rub a little into my skin, and it's lovely. Plus, it makes my hair smell DELICIOUS. The caramel scent combined with the fruity and vanilla-y smells of my other products and I smell amazing all day. Mmmm. I've had to hide it in my room to keep my sister from stealing it constantly, because it's mine, all MINE! That's how good it is. I highly recommend this.

This stuff is pretty nice. I only use this pomade as a pre-wash treatment because the smell is way too strong (it's not a bad smell, it's just waaaaay too strong). Before I co-wash or shampoo, I coat my hair with this product which tones the smell down AND still leaves my hair shiny and buttery soft.

This definitely helps with slick back. It smells really good all their products do. I used it to Oprah edges and worked really well better than my usual routine of water and KBN Shealoe with hand smoothing. If u don't like to use brushes just hand smooth it. I used this in conjunction with flaxseed gel (homemade and mixed with evoo) and water but I had already applied other oyin products too. Still at the end of the day my edges were smooth and no really annoying flyawats at all. Recommended!

I have type 4a/4b hair and this stuff works wonders. I've already gotten through almost half in just a few weeks (yea I'm a little heavy handed but my hair can get really dry sometimes). It is great for moisturizing right after you have washed and conditioned your hair, great for twist outs/braid outs and I even use it on my scalp. I deff recommend this product to anyone who wants soft touchable, moisturized hair!!!

I LOVE this product! A little goes a long way, and it makes my hair incredibly soft and I think the smell is heavenly. I can't tell you how many times I've been told how good I smell. lol! Also I love smelling the scent on my hair through out the day, it reminds me of one of my favorite hazelnut candles. I'm a big scent person, so it doesn't bother me at all. This pomade is extremely moisturizing, as a matter of fact, if I use too much, it will make my hair too soft, especially when I blow dry it. This has become one of my staples!

Thi is one of the best pommades I have used, but I cannot take the intense smell. I wish Oyin would offer a toned down version for those of us who are fragance sensitive. Would have given it 4 stars for quality, 1 stars for the pungent intense maple syrupy smell.

  • 4

Posted by woodasr (Type Unkown) on 02/19/2012

I love this product. The smell is so intense it gives me a headache and makes me feel nauseated, literally. I wish they would offer a lightly scented version of this (as in 1/5th the frangance they are currently using). I smell like I poured an entire bottle of maple syrup in my hair. It would be difficult to wear any perfume wiith this product. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing, hint hint Oyin makers. As a pommade, I have not found anything that works as well as this on my hair. I understand some people love the intense smell, that is why offering us an option at checkout would be good because one size shoe doesn't fit all.

I recently got my hair blown out by the Dominicans (pray for no heat damage) and I used it to add shine to my hair and I used it on my ends since I got a trim and it left my hair feeling wonderful and smelling outta this world. My hubby likes the smell, so if I don't get kicked out of bed, it works for me! It also works well to keep my ends moisturized for twists/twistouts.

Call me the odd man out, but I do not like the smell of this. I love everything about this, but the smell is just too much. Someone else described the smell as "sugar cookies in the jar, but maple syrup in the hair." I think that is a pretty accurate description. WAY too sweet (made me a bit queasy and made my boo sneeze).

I really like this product to seal in the moisture after using my leave in/styling products. The smell is heavenly, like a more palatable Bath&Bodyworks warm vanilla sugar spray (minus the strong alcohol sent). The consistency is wax-like but once you rub it between your palms it warms up beautifully into a thick oil for sealing. I also like to use it to moisturize my hair when I come home for work or when I prepare for bed. On a typical day when I don't cowash I use Juices and Berries to bring my curls back to life and then I seal with Oyin's BSP. A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY and like most oils it works fabulously on both wet and dry hair. It can also be used as an aid to take down twists, braids and bantu-knot outs. I love Oyin and can't try the rest of their products!

  • 4

Posted by Guzophela (Type 3c) on 10/02/2011

Like most Oyin products, a little goes a long way! I'm still working through my tiny sampler!
This pomade smells AMAZING but is oily, so for people like me who break out from that, try to keep it a little bit away from your hairline! I've found that since I wear my hair out and it's too short to pull into a ponytail, I rarely have to use this but when I do, it works great. It seems a little heavy until you either melt it in the microwave or use your body heat, but after you apply it to your hair, you won't be disappointed! If you aren't sure about this product, MAKE SURE TO GET A SAMPLER! It's cheap, ships fast, and will last longer than you'd think!

So this is a pretty good pomade. It leaves behind a silky, rather than greasy feel and my hair drinks it right up. Why the 3 curls? The smell. When I open the jar and stick my nose in it, it smells of yummy, slightly over cooked sugar cookies. When I rub between my palms and rub in my hair, it smells of yucky, over powering maple syrup. IcK!!! It's a shame really, the pomade works great, but I can't bear the smell...

This stuff is excellent! It gives the hair a great sheen. It smells like maple syrup, which I love. It has to be melted down so that it spreads more easily, though.

Love everything about it! Scent too. Besides Aquilina Pink Sugar, Dior Addict, and Hanae Mori Butterfly perfumes this is the only other scent I was ever complimented on by total strangers. And it gives shine and tames my hair. I want to hoard it so I never run out, but it says it needs to be used up within a year or 2, so will stick to small amounts. Got a 1 oz sample months ago and still barely made a dent in it. Need very little to get results. HG!

I purchased the sample from Oyin and it hasn't failed me yet. it keeps my 3c/4a hair soft and plyable all day. I love the sugary smell and I enjoy that non-greasy feel. A little of this is all i need to get the job done right. I'll def be getting a bigger size in my next order.

I can honestly not think of a time when i dont use this product. it was amazing on my scalp, as a sealer, on my edges, to add shine, to give a bit more hold, softness...literally everything. Now at first i was not the biggest fan of the smell it was a little like artifical maple sugar cookie ish. if you like those types of candles then you'll love this. but i did not hate the smell, it grew on me and doesnt linger that long. It gets the job done i think everybody can agree on that to some extent

Hands down, the best product I've ever used to seal moisture into my thick hair.
As a couple other users have said, a little definitely goes a long way. The first time I tried BSP, I used too much on a couple of my twists (I use it to seal the ends) and when I took the twists down, I had that white-clumpy residue. I'm not sure if it was the BSP or the combination of products, but I haven't had any residue since I figured out exactly how much is good for each twist. I use this product combined with Kinky Curly Knot Today & Curling Custard, and my curly-fro has never been more fabulous (looking & smelling)

I ordered my sample side of BSP directly from Oyin . Love the sent. It's not a sweet as I thought that it would be..which made me happy...but sweet enough that it's smells like good baked cookies in the oven. My hair is a mix of 3C/4A and very shine resistant. I didn't receive a lot of shine wit this product...but moisturizing it is. And a little goes a long way...even in my super thick hair.

I used this product to moisturize and nourish my scalp. Not sure how best to describe, but my scalp feels like it is drinking in moisture every time I use it. I kind of like the smell, don't love it, but would definitely recommend and will continue using. Love it!

I use this pomade in addition to a moisturizer to do my two strand twists. This product had good hold for my twists, and my twist outs are shiny and defined with this product. I love the warm vanilla sugar smell!

This product is awesome, especially when combined with the Hair Dew which I hope comes to CurlMart soon. BSP has a nice, warm Hazlenut scent. It's great for braids and twists and makes them so soft with a nice shine.

I absolutely LOVED Burnt Sugar Pomade! I used it religiously to seal in moisture in my hair after showers or after washing and conditioning. It leaves my hair extremely soft and moisturized. My hair can get pretty dry, but Burnt Sugar Pomade sealed in moisture and left my hair so soft. And most of all, I love the smell. Mmmm! :)

First off I love the smell of burnt sugar pomade! The shine is great! However, I doesn't smooth my edges well or define. In order for this to work well I use the whipped pudding or shine and define with the pomade and my braidouts are fabulous!

It feels gritty, and actually smells way too sweet. Now, we all know that I LOVE sweets- hence I can't stay a size 6 but for so long before I gotta pull my 8 & 10 jeans out the closet, but this stuff takes the cake (hehe). It smells like pancakes drowned in maple syrup. And the results are nothing spectacular. I love how the marketing on their websites will tell you that beautiful shiny moisturized hair will appear after taking down twist. Well, not the case for me. My twist had mediocre definition & absolutely no shine. I was actually disappointed at how dry my hair looked!

So here's the deal...this product did impart shine without the greasy feeling, which is really hard to find. It's also a great sealant. However, the smell is SO TERRIBLE! I couldn't wait to wash my hair just to get RID OF THE HORRID SMELL. Every time the wind would blow, I could smell it and it made me want to vomit! It smells like burnt sweet buttery popcorn. I'll most likely have to give it away to someone. If you're not sensitive to different smells like I am then you'll probably really like this pomade.

I bought this for my daughter's extra dry 4a hair. While I'm not a fan of the smell, she loves that her hair smells like "cake", and the oil soaks in really well and keeps her hair hydrated over the course of the day. I didn't feel there was much hold, but I also don't want anything in my daughter's hair that leaves it stiff - and she's a kid, so she doesn't need much hold anyway. I recommend this product. I like the all-natural ingredients and that there's "love" in it!

    love it!

it keeps my hair moisturized (and smelling good) for the ENTIRE week. All i do in the mornings is LIGHTLY spray my hair with water. The yummy oils etc are still there. Keeps the hair very shiny!

i also use it to smooth back my edges. I ran out of my other pomade (just a smooth mix of butters and oil) and i'm very glad i bought this.

and i live in Texas where it's hot and humid. I didn't mind the caramel smell in my hair. you don't need that much product anyway. SOLID PURCHASE

I love this stuff, it really moisturizes my ends and it a great nighttime sealant. Only thing is it's really hard to emulsify in your hands and on wet hair it can be white.

I bought this after reading a review on a curly hair blog. I totally misunderstood what this was to be used for. I purchased it as a moisturizer and found it extremely heavy for my hair. It smells great, slicks unruly sides down nicely, but overall it's far too greasy for my hair type, fine medium texture 3b/3c hair.

This is actually an update on this product. I actually left a review complaining about the smell of the product. I didn't want to get rid of it, so I decided to try it again. This time, I put it on my hair first, then followed with Oyin's Shine and Define Serum. Then proceeded to two strand twist a section of my hair. Not only was my hair super soft and defined, but the smell was not overpowering. My hair smelled like orange sherbet!! Wins my five stars!!

    (3b-3cish)
My favorite pomade thus far. It smells delicious. Sweet and foody so if you don't like sweet scents i wouldn't recommend. I use this basically to scrunch out my hair after my gel has dried. It eliminates the frizz factor and adds natural shine and a ton of moisture and protection from the dry Southern California air and sun. I also use this to seal my ends at night. This is bascally a..dare i say..HOLY GRAIL product =) I actually don't think i could leave my hair down and expect a good hairday without it.

I lovd it! Loved it! Loved it! It left my hair super soft and shiny and a little goes a long way! I loved the smell! It was an absolute plus! And it will be a staple item for me... The only thing that I didn't like was that it needs to be melted in my hand first before I could put it on my hair so that I can achieve a smooth finish.

The Burnt Sugar Pomade sunk right into my hair, leaving it feeling moist and not at all greasy, just as the label promised. It game my hair a moist feeling as well as defining my curl. Unfortunately for me, even though the scent is light and yummy, I was unable to tolerate it. That's the only reason I'm only giving this product 3 curls.

Fabulous! The only pomade I've found that both softens and adds shine to my 3c/4a, very thick hair! I smooth a little bit onto my hair after it's dried and set, and any crunch that may have been there is gone. The curls stay defined. It melts into hair so there's no "whiteness" on my dark brown hair and the softness lasts - unlike other oils i've used. It's a must in my house! (Oh and the smell is sometimes like sugar cookies, sometimes bubblegum-ish. It's a sweet smell; not strong. I don't have a problem with it.)
