The smell was way to strong. Left my thin hair too oily. I think will try i will try it again if I ever over process my hair. I can see why people like it, but it was just not good for me.

This is amazingggg! It leaves my hair so moisturized and soft plus it has a lot of slip! Also my hair just soaks it up! (Hair type 4a not 4c)

This is EXCELLENT!!! I love the smell so much. It smells like the Burnt Sugar Pomade, and it has such a smooth, light texture. It's a great moisturizer, especially when you put the pomade on top. Also, it's great for refreshing/re-moisturizing because the texture is light enough that it doesn't cause build-up or residue. Amazing product, I adore it.

This product could not be more amazing. It smells delicious, has incredible slip, and leaves my hair soft without weighing it down in the least. I use it on top of my leave in conditioner and underneath my styler (gel).

This is a pretty good, light hair moisturizer! This is my first all natural hair lotion that I have used since doing the big chop and I can honestly say I love it! The smell is great and the product itself keeps my hair soft and moisturized. I do find that it does not keep it moisturized for DAYS unless I do seal with the burnt sugar pomade or my other heavy cream that I use to seal my hair with. It does work wonders when paired with the pomade but still gives pretty good results when applied daily. I love how this product absorbs into my hair. I have learned not to use too much because it will have your hair looking white. I just recently purchased the 16.9 oz after having the 8 oz for less than a month. I had to make sure I had plenty in my stash for the cold weather to come. Great product and I will definitely keep repurchasing!!!!

this is not bad but the hype is overrated
i used this in twists and wash n gos (my usual style). Its JUST ok and i really wanted to love it.
i even bough the biggest bottle like everyone suggested. its a waste of money for me
the smell is nice and its ok if i really needed a moisturizer and had nothing else around.

i dont even know what to do with the rest of this.
im half way through the 16.9 ounce too and ive been using this exclusively for about 2 months
maybe i can blend this with shea butter and other oils as a sealent? :( :( :( :(
    super disappointed

This product is probably too heavy for my 2c hair, but right now my hair is so damaged from bleaching it that heavier, moisturizing products are working for me lately. If you have fine or wavy hair I would say use a very small amount. Overall, very moisturizing product and love the ingredients.

Great for my very dry hair. I use it on wet hair and it does´t way my hair down and give it a lot of moisture. However it is easy for my hair to look so shiny that it appears a bit greasy in places. But it is a matter of taste. If I wear my hair wavy with a styler the hair does´t look greasy it is when I wear it wavy with no other product but the Hair Dew that it can look greasy here ans there.
I think I have type 2b/2c and here and there a bottecellicurl appears. I have very dry, blonde hair, bra length. The hair is fine so the curls and waves is not so easy define when the hair is so long. Even so the hair does´t seem to be so easy way down buy routs. It seems to love oils and butter and get more volume from it.

I originally purchased the 8oz bottle of this from target to try out and it has became a favorite of mine on my search for a glycerin free moisturizer. I just had to have a larger bottle after that which lead to me coming on here and ordering the 16.9oz bottle of it. :) love how moisturized my hair feels with this. When wet my fingers can just glide through my hair after applying this. I also love the smell which always has me wanting cake and cookies or a drink from starbucks lol.

I have 3c/4a low porosity curls and my hair LOVES this moisturizer. It isn't greasy and provides good moisture throughout the day. It doesn't provide any hold at all, though. I usually apply this immediately after a shower as my leave-in layer. This product isn't enough on it's own so I usually layer Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade and/or homemade flax seed gel over the Hair Dew. In the winter I usually mix in olive oil, avocado oil, or apricot kernal oil for an extra moisture boost. I can't speak for other hair types but this is definitely a winner for my hair!

I would give it a 5 because my hair LOVES this product but my skin does not. I think it maybe the castor oil in it. I tried using minimal amounts of the product on my hair but it never fails the next day I have breakout starting somewhere on my face. It took me about 6 months to figure out what was causing it and unfortuantly it was a product that my hair loves. I use it everyone now and then just to treat my hair but skin usually pays for it!

I have to edit my original review posted in October 2012. This no longer works well in my hair as a leave-in, although it still makes a good overnight or rinse-out conditioner. The reason I am rating it one star is because of the discrepancy in whether they use aloe vera leaf juice or aloe gel in the product. The website is listing aloe vera gel (and old reviews from 2012 also list AVG) while the actual bottle and this website is listing aloe vera leaf juice. There is a DIFFERENCE between the two for many people and I personally can use aloe vera gel in my hair without products problems, but aloe vera juice leaves me with dried out, brittle hair similar to a protein overload. I will contact the company to get clarification and update when I hear back. My hair is shoulder length 4a low porosity.

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!! My friend has officially classified my as a "PJ-product junkie" so I ordered the 5pc sample pack to see if it lived up to the hype of the reviews(because I am an avid review reader and product researcher). I use the hair dew as the "C in my LCO" method. My hair tends to be dry by nature, so I paired it with the whipped pudding and the burnt sugar pomade for a flat twist out. When I took them down the next day, I was VERY surprised..my hair was SHINEY, SOFT, MOISTURIZED AND SMELLED GREAT!!! I received a lot of compliments on my hair. As my day progressed, my hair held its definition, did not dry out, the smell did not fade and it did not frizz up and become one big puff ball as it has with other products. The products smell like fresh baked cookies, cakes cinnamon rolls etc..and as I said does not easily fade away; so if your "smell sensitive," it may get on your nerves after a while. I am looking forward to using other products from this company like the honey hemp conditioner and I love the fact that the products are made from natural ingredient because I try to stay away from the "cones" because of the moisture blocking effect. This product is now at the top of my "must have on hand at all times" list. GREAT JOB OYIN HOMEMADE!!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!! All I need to refresh my 2nd, 3rd, even 4th day wash and go. The moisture from this stuff is out of this world. I didn't have a problem with the smell as many have said. It's a bit on the sweet smelling side but it's not like the bees would be following me around or anything :) Took away 1 star because it is hard to get out of the bottle because of it's consistency and the fact that the bottle is not squeezable. Let's just say my right arm is very strong from having to shake it down. I store it sideways now to avoid looking like Popeye in about 2 more months :)

I think it's great as a light moisturizer or leave-in! Applied it on freshly washed hair and my hair stayed moisturized for about 3 days. Pretty good. But the scent gave me a headache when I first used it. The fragrance is very heavy to me. Just can't apply it in the bathroom, so I go to the living room where there's more airflow. Would definitely buy more often if there were an unscented version.

Best moisturizing properties HANDS DOWN, particularly during warmer months for ALL of the reasons listed from leave-in to 2nd day styler, but the scent.....NO, NO, NO! It's too sweet, smells like syrup. Please consider a citrus, herbal, or better yet, UNSCENTED version.

Perfect on naked or second-day hair, just like the bottle claims! I use this after a cowash and as a pick-me-up between washes, and it manages frizz while moisturizing my curls to keep them bouncy and shiny. At first the smell made me gag, but by the 2nd and 3rd use I enjoyed it. Great consistency, just hard to get out of the bottle.

I can not express enough how wonderful this product is. I have been on a search to try to find a good leave in for my hair and boy did I find it. I am so glad I decided to try Hair Dew and like another person said this is liquid gold!

My hair is medium thickness with very thin wirey strands, I'm sure very low porosity. My profile says 4b, but I may be 3c or 4a, I don't know. Anyway, I have tried a lot of products, but when I put Oyin Hair Dew in as my leave in, my hair is absolutely beautiful. I actually added some Camille Rise Live Milk on top an a very small dab of Curl Junkie Curls in a Bottle, but I believe this Hair Dew is now my liquid gold.

First, the fragrance is so good I want to eat it. To me it smells like (well) burnt sugar, anyway; I usually don't like light products like this because my hair is extremely thick, however; this stuff is wonderful. I can use it daily without leaving any residue, and it makes my hair feel really moisturized.

OMG!!!!The smell of this lotion is a delicious, lighter version of the Burnt Sugar Pomade. So I used it as a leave-in on my 4c naked hair & OW MY GAWDNESS my hair was super duper soft. It was scary just how soft my hair felt, especially when it dried. For a hair lotion this light, I honestly did not think it would do anything for by bush, but it moisturized mt kinks like no other!!!! As long as the formula doesn't change, Oyin Handmade has themselves a repeat customer!! Hair Dew is EverythAng!!

I just went natural after years and years of using keratin to relax my curls. I needed something that would not make my hair sticky or stiff, and wanted to make it look shiny but not greasy. This stuff was great. Kept my curl pattern, made my hair soft and shiny and not frizzy. Love it.

Heyy this is an amazing leave in.
Very moisturizing and great for protein sensitive heads despite the aloe and coconut oil ,etc.
It was moisturizing but i wish it was heavier because even though i sealed in the moisture i felt like i needed to re moisturize the drier parts of my hair the day after.

I understand that not everyone hair is the same but I absolutely love this product. I only used it once so far and I used it to refresh my curls. After applying it, I flat twisted my hair and the next day my hair was soooooooooooo moisturized! Which is what I've been needing big time! I love the scent! My husband loved it too. I went into work making my co workers smell my hair =) They loved the smell too. The only thing I did not like was the shipping. After I ordered it and received a confirmation email I never got an email in regards to it being shipped out. Shipping took a while to get here I hope they get this issue under control.

If you were wondering I have low porosity hair and I am still transitioning. I will soon get my big chop since I am happy with my longer length. So far this is a staple hair product for me!

Unfortunately, this product does not work for my hair at all. As everyone says, the smell is strongly sweet, but tolerable for me. However, it weighs my hair down like crazy! I washed my hair and at the end of the day looked like I hadn't washed it at all! My hair was frizzy and stringy and greasy looking. Yuck. I washed it out the next day.

I might have been a bit heavy handed with it and may give it another try down the road, but at this point, this product is a no-go for me.

I love this leave-in! Smells great and moisturizes good for WNGs and twist/braid-outs. My only complaint is it doesn't really aid me with detangling. However.. much more bank for my buck than It's a 10 (which is its only real contender for me right now since KKNT is a great detangler but gives me zero moisture). I will continue to purchase for now.

Provides moisture but the smell is just too much. I am revisiting this product. I like the big bottle I got awhile ago because the smell has faded away. I decided to order another bottle because someone said the smell had changed. No, it didn't. I like scents but it has a smell that makes you want to gag. I am giving it three stars because if you let it sit awhile its ok but freshly ordered it makes me want to throw up. I really wish they would offer scent options with a lighter scent or unscented. If you don't mind strong scents its a good option. If you don't like strong scents I would open and reclose and allow 3 months in storage before using. So sad...still looking for a good leave in.

I am 3c-41 hair that is rather cottony. I think this is good as a moisturizer; even while I am living through some really cold months (there were flurries in the sunshine state! i.e. Florida). I seriously could not deal with the smell of my hair with this product, though!! A lot of people said their hair smelled like candy after putting this on. That is acceptable. I can deal with candy smells; and I love my hair smelling like coconut and vanilla, but this product made my hair smell like butter pecan ice cream! I told several people this, and they told me there couldn't possibly be a better description of the smell of my hair. Someone even agreed so much they said they would eat my hair because that was their favorite ice cream flavor! As a moisturizer, this is solid, although I feel like it is not enough in this 20 degree weather (but nothing is, lets be honest). Can Oyin conjure up new smells? This is absolutely too much. At first I thought I was walking around the world attracting squirrels with my snicker-scented hair until I realized, I was really attracting all of nature with my butter-pecan-ice-cream scented hair. I cant deal. I will stick with Shea Moisture curl milk until I find something with a nice scent and equally moisturizing. smh; I can't with this.

Another staple for me. I get the largest size. This is my leave in and the moisturizer in my LOCO. Initially I didn't like this in my hair and felt it was too light. Hair has to be prepped to get the best benefits I do a pre poo, then a cleanse then a curly kinks renew dc then rinse followed by a touch of this to detangle. Spritz with a vinegar tea rinse. I ice cold to restore my hair's PH then oils: castor oil coconut oil and a ceramic follow with more hair dew. Important to sandwich the humectant between damp hair and the moisturizer give the castor oil something to such on. After the hair dew follow with a sealing butter or oil. Will last for about 3 days in the cold midwest.

Prepoo'd, shampooed, and added hair dew. Product made my hair frizz instantly and it sat on top of my hair, leaving my hair white. Once my hair started to dry, the whiteness went away, but it left my hair feeling dry and a little hard. The same results occured when I co-washed my hair. Don't think this leave-in is for me.

I wanted to love this product as much as everyone else does. Unfortunately, it did not do much for my 4a curls. I think my curls thrive on thicker, richer leave-ins. I will try it one more time, using a bit more than I did before. Hopefully, using more product will increase effectiveness. In the meantime, I am still searching for a thick, rich leave in that works well with my Ecostyler gel and does not just sit on my hair.

Yes, wavies can use this too! I use it on both wet hair (as a leave-in) or dry hair as a finisher. Sometimes it's just what I need to weigh down flyaways without turning into a grease ball from too much oil.

    EXCELLENT!

Let me just tell you ladies how satisfied and content I am with this product. My daughter has 3c-4a curls and the finest hair there is. She also has very low porosity (the tightest hair cuticles there can be) and has a SEVERE protein sensitivity. With all that being said you can imagine how naturally dry my daughter's hair is. After a tough 2 year ride trying to figure out how to manage my daughter's hair almost to the point of wanting to relax her hair and giving up. I came across this site only to learn about all the special hair properties that make up a curly mane, and then viola! I was able to throw out all the hair products I was putting on my daughter's hair, which were mostly just causing severe build-up and drying her hair out even more.

Oyin is the first product I purchased from Curlmart and with just 2 weeks I have seen the biggest changes in my daughter's hair. She now has the most beautiful , hydrated and defined curls. I never knew how truly beautiful her hair was until I started using the right products which makes all the difference with people with curly hair.

I use a little more than dime size amount for her whole hair every day, I section her hair off then I apply with very warm water and untangle with my fingers. Then I simply style her hair.

I recommend if you have: Low porosity, protein sensitive and fine curly hair

I have what is known as 4C hair. My hair doesn't like protein, coconut oil, nor Aloe vera gel or juice. I used Hair Dew back some 2 years ago in my natural hair journey. That I remember the product delivered ample moisture to my hair. Now after being natural for 4 years I'm giving this product a go again, because It gave my hair great moisture. Now that my hair is at collar bone length, and is common to tangle up on itself, I have to be very careful of what I use on my hair, and not to wet it too much or it will shrink up and tangle up on itself. I also have to be care of the ph level in products, because they may give my hair negitive results, even from piling products on top of one another, they may not agree with each another. When I used Hair Dew this time it caused my hair to tighten up/tangle-up a bit, and I don't know why. I didn't check the ph level and even though the product worked for my hair when it was shorter it re-acted different this time maybe because my hair is longer. Even though this product has Aloe and coconut oil in it that my hair doesn't like, I wanted to give this product another try. Although I used the Hair Dew after using Jessicurl Deep Conditioner. maybe the results I got could be from the two not agreeing with each other. Hard to say what it was, so I'll try a different route.

I was expecting a lot from Oyin since i paid a total of 60 swiss francs for shippings, so it's been 2 weeks now and i'm really really in love with this brand it's just amazing the moisture i have constantly, it has saved me time, money and hair !

I'm a 3C-4A transitioning BSL curly girl with low porosity so i have to be careful with product build up so i sometimes use the Whipped pudding or Define and Shine over 1/Greg Juice 2/ Hair dew 3/ seal ends with BSP.

Hair dew is ideal for me because it's just enough moisturizing, light and detangling for my hair, i like Kinky Curly Knot Today but it's too light...Camile Rose Naturals Hair milk is good but i ran out of stock and didn't find this brand so magnificent.

Use a coin size of the Hair dew over the Greg juice and seal either with BSP or an oil, i like organic Coconut oil it really softens my hair and keep it seal.

    THUMBS UP FOR OYIN :)

I've heard good reviews on Oyin Hair Dew I thought I'll give it a try. This was a NO-go for me it didn't keep my hair moisturize and the softness wasn't there. I look for a leave-in that will moisturize and keep my hair soft for at least 2 days. Curl Junkie S.L. its good OK .. but KCKT is GREAT!.. My #1

LOVE! I'm finishing up my first bottle of this, and I can't believe I didn't try it sooner. I've been using alba leave in conditioner, and while I have no complaints and it serves its purposes just fine as a leave in, this stuff is awesome! I love the ingredients, I love that it's all natural, but still so very useful, and the price makes it very accessible (i've used more expensive crap that had parabens and just didn't work as well). I use this while my hair is wet, but not soaking - so after about 15 mins wrapped up in a t-shirt, I put some of this on my hair and finish with the burnt sugar pomade from the same line. My hair is soft and shiny, with a very light hold - just the way I like it. I've used many hair products, and I've searched everywhere for perfection. If I wasn't such a busy working girl, I would find time to make my own products, but right now, I just don't have the time to mix and experiment, so thank you Jamilah (sp?) for taking the guess work out of it! I appreciate it!

Amazing! My 3b curls have a tendency to dry out within moments of drying, even air-drying without any heat tools. I went back to my naturally curly hair two months ago, and moisture has been my main issue: straightening with a flat iron and some oil sealers gives a shine, which gives the illusion of moisture, but I want to get my hair healthy again in its natural state. This Hair Dew is the most moisturizing leave-in I've found so far, natural or synthetic. The leave-in has always been the most important part of my hair care routine, and I've tried a lot of brands: Bedhead, Fekkai, Mixed Chicks, Amika, among other organic brands. I can't bring myself to part with shampooing my hair (I've compromised and now use Deva Curl's No-Poo), and I wash my hair every time I shower, so very often. This can be extremely stripping, which is why I rely so heavily on the occasional deep conditioning treatment and leave-ins. This is a miracle product, and at a great price! It replaced the Mixed Chicks as my after-wash leave-in. I'm using up the rest of the MC bottle as a between-washing boost, just not to waste the bottle, but I'll definitely buy the Hair Dew from now on. My hair is quenched, finally, smooth, and even my scalp feels moisturized (but not greasy). A little goes a long way, and as a bonus, my second day hair has never looked better, even when I fall asleep without a hair net or my sleep cap! I am still growing out my bangs, so I straightened them alone the other day, and the hair was actually so moisturized that it flattened beautifully. I rarely take the time to write reviews, but I had to review this product, because it WORKS. Definitely going to be a staple in the future. Oh yes, and it smells amazing: sweet and a little buttery. Definitely my beauty find of the year!

Stylers that are made for African American hair(read: stylers that contain a lot of oils) never seemed to work for me. So when this came in my Curlkit, honestly, It was the last product I tried. Holy CRAP this stuff was amazing in my hair. I have fine, porous 3b curls and it didn't weigh my hair down at ALL, but really gave me some fantastic moisture!! I love this stuff- I cannot say enough about it. And don't get me started on the smell- it is heavenly.

great moisture, nice slip and i really like the smell. i've been using this product for coming up to 2 years now for my wash and go's and i have nothing but good things to say about it. it is more expensive now than when i first started using it and compared to some other leave in's, but you can't deny the quality so i will continue to buy. minor peeve-they changed the bottle so it's now opaque which means i can't see how much product i have left. i definitely preferred the translucent bottles more!

I was super stoked to try this product after reading all the raving reviews. I've always been a natural, but just decided to switch to natural ingredients. I ordered this along with the Honey Hemp conditioner and I couldn't wait for them to arrive, so I could jump in the shower and finally wash my hair and revel in the bliss that I'd found my favorite brand. Unfortunately my dream didn't quite end like that. The conditioner works fine and the Dew felt nice while I was applying it--but after air-drying, my hair begged to differ. It left my curls incredibly dry, frizzy and feeling like straw. No matter how little or much I use, or whether it's second or third day hair, the result is never flattering. I gave it two stars for the delicious smell.

I absolutely love this product! It has a wonderful sweet smell and a thick, creamy, yet absorb-able consistency. It plays well with other stylers, gels, and oils. It softens and detangles hair, and primes hair for a styler like gel. I have been using this product in my leave-in conditioner line up for a few months now and every time i use it I am more impressed.
I chose this leave in conditioner based on reviews and it does not contain glycerin. I transitioned for 2 yrs and have been rocking wash n gos since-9 months now. I have developed my technique and routine and in my climate I have to be mindful of ingredients and this product is fantastic year around.Oyin Handmade makes quality products and this is one of my holy grail leave-in conditioners (along with Kinky Curly).

I pulled out my ol trusty Hair Dew and it went to work restoring the moisture to my hair. I will never EVER deviate again. Many say they don't like the smell but it reminds me of cake or cookie batter...soft and sweet. My hair feels amazing after an application of this liquid gold on my 4a curls. I am very pleased with this super moisturizing leave-in. My hair says "YES" everytime i use it. Its very creamy (not thin like a lotion) and provides excellent conditioning for my curls. I use it on dry hair when re-twisting at night on the 2nd or 3rd day of a twist-out, or i spray my hair with a little water to soften and use it all over as a leave-in. It gives me soft and shiny hair, your curls will thank you. NOTE: the smell is VERY sweet and strong, it may be too much for some.

My hair also feels non-gunky thanks to the quick absorbence of this product (something I don't always love, but in this case...it's a win). The smell is yummy, a kind of cocoa-cookie-burnt sugar sort of scent. It's only been a couple of days, but I highly recommend.

So I must say this has always been a staple in my baby girls hair because of all the natural ingredients and moisture its the only thing that works on her very delicate curls. But for me not so much. Although it did moisterize it was never heavy enough to seriously consider styling with....I had no curl definition! BUT I have found a new use for it... after I deep conditioned I rinsed with cold water (not fun) and added a dime size amount of leave in (kckt) and a nickel size amount of my preferred styler, curl junkie curls in a bottle... I sat under the dryer so I could dry quickly Cuz its cold outside but I must have you a smidget too much Cuz my curls were well defined but crunchy. So what to do what to do??? Big surprise I scrunch in a nickel size amount of hair dew and VOILÀ crunch is gone and curls are soft springy moisterized and still well defined. Now that's what I call teamwork lol
    BTW my curls are 3b/c

Love this! The consistency is like lotion. For me, it is an all in one leave in. I don't have to add oil (like KCKT), it doesn't leave my hands gunky or feel weird (like CJ Smoothing Lotion). It leaves my hair very soft and makes it ready for a styler. Decent detangler, but KCKT is the best for detangling. The smell is sweet, but not offputting. As an added bonus, I can put a little on my 6 month old daughter's hair, and it works wonderfully, with no build up! I just ordered two more bottles!

the hair dew is great. the smell is nice- like burnt sugary vanilla-ish. i used it as a leave in and it left my hair soft. but for winter dry air i prefer oyin's whipped pudding as my leave in. this is wonderful for refreshing 2nd and 3rd day hair. i take some in my palm and scrunch it in. it helps give the bounce back to my hair and also combats frizz. err on the side of less with this product, it can be easy to overuse.

3B: Love it. Been using it for 2-3 years now. Have tried other leave-ins but never get the same results as Hair Dew. Has a nice vanilla/coconut scent. Not heavily scented. Provides just enough moisture for my curls. A little goes a long way. Easily finger-combed through hair. Two thumbs up!

I am currently transitioning to natural and my hair can be on the dry side. When I use this it instantly makes my hair soft. I use to use Shea moisture curl and style milk and the hair dew beats it in my opinion and does a wonderful job keeping my hair moisturized for days on end. I will repurchase. (I have very thick, bra length hair)

I love this stuff. I've tried other leave-in conditioners and this one is being added to my favorites list. The great thing about this conditioner is that, unlike my other favorite, Giovanni Direct Leave In, this conditioner is a little lighter so my hair dries faster. I really love the smell, too. I use it on my daughter's hair and on my own. It makes detangling our 4a/b curls/coils easy and provides lasting moisture and softness.

I don't get the hype. This did nothing for my hair. This sat on my hair, wt and dry, and didn't provide any long-term moisture. It worked for maybe an hour, but not much more. Furthermore, the smell is a turn-off - it was amusing during the application, but I didn't want to walk around all day smelling like cotton candy. It also left my hands feeling rough, which was odd. After all of my other all-natural hair products, my hands feel just as moisturized as my hair.

Only a few products are true gamechangers and this is one. I'm actually on a reviewing spree today after a few years of not logging onto NC so that I can give credit to the companies that create awesome products that have been in my rotation for a while (read: two years or more). The Hair Dew moisturizes my hair. While that sounds like a simple statement, it means a whole lot for curly heads, kinky heads, and coily headed women who have trouble keeping their hair moisturized. My hair is fine, coily 4a/4b and low porosity meaning it does not wet easily, is flyaway and neglects to hold onto styles or moisture. You couldn't tell all of those things looking at my hair----because of the Hair Dew. My hair feels smooth, looks lustrous, dark, crazy sheen and doesn't feel greasy. Jamyla and Pierre have somehow concocted the perfect combination of penetrating oils (coconut, olive), humectants (castor), moisture (water) and other goodness that balances out the moisture in your hair overtime without greasiness or buildup. It works so well and so consistently, that I do not alternate with other leave-ins (although I use KCKT as a water-based leave-in after every wash and alone in the Summer when Hair Dew is too heavy---see KCKT review for explanation). The 16.9 oz is always at hand. I can use it alone, on my coily days under Sophia's Hair Grease and KCCC, on my twistout days under Sophia's Hair Grease or KBB cream, and even in the Fall when I flat-iron my hair for moisture and heat protection.

TYPE 3C/4A This product is amazing! I use this on two strand twists, which is now my go to style. I apply on clean wet hair and allow to air dry (or sometimes dry under bonnet dryer) and the finished product is ALWAYS soft, fluffy, defined and moisturized twists. I literally don't need moisture until day 3 or 4. I pair this with Oyins Shine & Define (which I attribute the definition to) and seal my ends with Oyins Burnt Sugar Pomade. The smell I love..it smells just like the BSP. Love love love this!!!

This stuff is amazing!!! I love it, especially after spraying my hair with greg juice. I'm on second day hair with this right now! and i had my hair up earlier this AM and my hair still looks as good as the first day! That is amazing. I also rub it over any frizz. i have dry frizzy hair at my crown and i just take pinch of this and rub it over those frizzy curls and they look great :D
My hair is medium density, 3a/b, low/normal porosity if that helps.

Hair dew-ya! It's good used by self but to achieve a really good twist out and moisturized twists I started by conditioning with Joney Hemp conditioner then applied Hair Dew and last used Shine and Define. Twists were moisturized and when I took them out they were really well defined. The ingredients are really good but I prefer shine and define over this.

I was super excited to try this, since I wanted a leave-in with no protein or glycerin, but this was a huge disappointment. Although some thicker leave-ins work well for me, some ingredient in this - maybe the castor oil, since I haven't used another product containing that before - made my hair really greasy and stringy. I also like to rely on my leave-ins to provide some added frizz control as well as moisture, and this contributed nothing in that department. It was almost as if this product was simultaneously too heavy and too light. The consistency felt nice; it seemed moisturizing going on; and I liked the sweet smell well enough, but it just looked so awful once it dried! I usually won't submit a negative review without having tried a product a few times, but I was just so horrified about how bad my hair looked with this that I don't want to use it again. Still deciding if I should try it again in winter when my hair is dryer.

After reading the reviews I was eager to get this product, but it has been a disappointment.

My first impression was of the scent. Though not extremely strong, this product has a very sickening scent. It's hard to describe, but it smells like something slightly sweet and burnt or something damp and musty. Though the scent fades away a little a day after application, it is very nauseating.

Additionally, though it has a good consistency (creamy, not oily or too thick) and my hair seemed to absorb it quickly, it is not very moisturizing for my 4c hair. (I apply the product to damp hair). Within a day my hair starts feeling dry. I wanted something that would last a bit longer.

It also had good slip, but nothing much better than the products I already use.

I intended to use this product as a detangler and daily moisturizer, but the scent alone has thrown me off. It has not been an excellent moisturizer either. I will not buy this again and would not recommend it to anyone with my hair type. If the scent were good I might have considered buying it again. Two stars for the slip and its consistency.

I so wanted to love this after reading the reviews, but it just goes to show how products can be so different for different people. This was very heavy and oily. I watered it down with distilled water and it was still too heavy and oily. I have low porosity, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Think I may have found my HG of leave ins! So pleased with everything about the product from the smell - soft, pleasant - to the consistency - light, creamy - to the results - SOFT, MOISTURIZED, BOUNCY coils. My hair is actually a mix of textures - 4a in the crown, 4b everywhere else except a large patch of hair over my left ear. Doesn't clump so, I think it's 4c. So, if your hair falls into ANY of those groups, your tresses will benefit from this product. I so pleased to have found a leave in that actually has slip, too. Far too many times, I purchased KCKT hoping that one day, I would get the results I read from reviewers who love Knot Today. That product NEVER made my hair feel soft or smooth. No slip, no conditioning, no nothing. But the Hair Dew? OMG! Am even using it as a curl refresher on 2nd day hair. Will be stocking up. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

This is a great product, but I'm not going to lie...The scent did get to me after a while. In the bottle, it smells wonderful, like a sugar cookie dream. However, when the Dew is applied to the hair, it has a sort of maple-y syrupy scent that I'm not too fond of. After a few times of use, I gave the product away.

This is a wonderful refresher, particularly when my hair is in twist. I spritz my hair with water and add a little of the Hair Dew, and my hair stays moisturized for 2-3 days, which is a must for my 4c kinks. Definitely on my list of staples.

    I love love this stuff.
I use this as a leave in and it's one of the few conditioners that work on my low porosity hair. So, if your hair is low porosity and you're tired of products just sitting there, try this.

  • 3

Posted by sophia (Type 4a) on 04/02/2012

This does make my hair soft eventually, but it doesn't absorb very well so I can only use it on twists or it leaves a white residue for a while. It also works much better on dry hair than wet for me, so maybe it has to do with porosity (mine is low, I think). It also has that burnt sugar smell, which people seem to like but it makes me really nauseous if I smell too much of it. The smell doesn't linger so it's not a problem in my hair, but I semi hold my breath when applying it! I'll give it more time, but I may not repurchase because I'd like a leave in that I can use on twists and on loose hair.

I ordered this just to try it since it was on sale at curlmart and did not have any expectations of it. I was wowed! I did not expect it to be so moisturizing, detangling, or give me curl definition. It worked wonders on my hair and my daughters hair. I waited a long time to try any Oyin product because I didn't know what to pick and didn't want to buy everything. Now 15 months into my natural journey, I realize I still needed to find a great leave-in and also based on where I live, I need to avoid glycerin since 95% of the time, our dew points and humidity are very high. I love this product, it's light-weight even in it's maple scent, yet suprisingly moisturizing and slippery enough for my dense, mostly 4a, a little 3c and 4b (for want of a better classification) hair types. I first bought the 8 oz bottle but plan to order the larger bottle from Oyin.

I love this product. Nothing that I have tried so far has worked as great on my hair as this product. The ingredients are a prefect coctail for my hair. I wish that it was not as fragrant. The only grounds that it loses points for me is on frangance or smell. Not everyone wants to smell like maple syrup and even if you want to smell like maple syrup today, it doesn't mean you will want to smell like maple syrup tomorrow. I would suggest a frangance free formulation for those of us who are really senstive to smell. This product line doesn't stink, I have tried some natural care products line that had some an off putting smell that effected my mood in a bad way (aroma therapy). As far as I am concerned, it doesn't matter that this product did not stink. As a Natural, I should have a choice in having fabulous hair and still haviing a choice in what fragrance I will be wearing. You cannot wear frangances with the Oyin line, they are combos perfumes /body washes, which is okay if that is what you want. I JUST WANT FABULOUS HAIR!!!! This product delivers in that category. I commend them for that and want to reiterate that this is not an unpleasant smell, but it is tooooo loud. Way too loud for me. So I have to choose betweeen faboulous hair or if I want to smell like maple syrup, which I don't most days. I mixed a bottle of this with an unscented leave in conditioner to try and mellow the smell out. The product doesn't work as well for me diluted like this, but what can I say and even then I still get a strong wiff of Maple Syrup. I hope Oyin is reading this. Some of us naturals just want faboulous hair, we do not want you to chose what perfume we are going to wear today. Please consider a frangant free formulation or a formulation with less frangance in it. But for the smell, I would have given this a 5. Based on the smell, I wanted to give it a 3 star, but I couldn't because the product works that well. So, I knocked off a point even though it should have been two for the smell.

OMG. This stuff is amazing! I have 4A-4B type hair that tends to be more wavy than curly and for some reason my hair is very, very tangly. No matter if I detangle before I wash, during the wash, and after the wash, it's still going to be tangled. I always hear people say how a product just melted their tangles, and I would think that would never be me. Well I'm here to tell you this stuff melted my tangles away! I lost about 80-90% less hair during my detangling session. I'm so happy and as long as they keep making this stuff, I will buy it.

I LOVE the smell - was worried about the smell descriptions from the other reviews but I don't smell sugar/butter/maple syrup. This is a staple in my house. It gives a lot of slip to our hair, especially after a fresh co wash. I often use it when styling my 2 year olds hair. The only thing is it tends to dry up faster on my baby's hair, but she will not let us wrap her hair at night, so....Also, the smell is yummy, like graham crackers with frosting on them.

I love the results that this product gives my curls. It leaves them feeling as smooth as butter. It has lots of great natural ingredients in it that really make the hair look and feel stronger as well. And, it is one of the most awesome detanglers that I have ever used as well.

The only con that I have about this product is its smell. It is supposed to have a light, sweet, buttery-sugar scent. I find it to be rather overpowering instead. Which is why, I don't choose to use it all the time in my hair. However, based upon the product's performance, it truly is a winner in my book!

I have thick, coarse 4b/4c curls and I think this stuff saved my hair for the winter. It keeps my hair moisturized and soft throughout most of the day which is exactly what I need. Plus, I love that there's no glycerin in the product. I'm in a really dry area for half a year so I usually need products without glycerin in it. As far as detangling goes, I guess it's okay. My hair gets tangled so badly and the KCKT does a much better job at detangling so I won't be using the hair dew as a detangler. Regardless, I bought this for moisturizing and it did exactly that.

A common thread that Oyin is fantastic with, is the smell of their products, and the Hair Dew is no exception to this rule. Along with the wonderful scent, it provides excellent moisture to my hair. I use it first as a leave-in, but I also use it on second day hair to refresh my twist-outs. Not only do I plan to repurchase this, but it will probably be a staple product for me.

I use this product as a leave-in. I had been on a search for a creamy leavin that does not leave a film or sticky on my hair. I have thick hair and color treated so my hair needs moisture daily. When I first applied the product, I felt this stuff sinking into my hair. This product has not left a film on hair when I did a twist out with the Donna Marie super butter cream. This product plays well with other stylers and very moisturing for my hair. I am going to retwist my hair with this product. I plan on using this with the burnt sugar pomade for a braidout. I would suggest this product and I give it five curlies because of the moisture! I have 3c/4a hair and this stuff is a staple as my leave in and its glycerin free, thats a plus for color treated curlies!

Another decent product ruined by an overbearing smell. This smells just like the Burnt Sugar Pomade; sweet sugar cookies in the bottle, nasty maple syrup on the hair. I used this as a leave-in/detangler. It did a so-so job when it came to detangling (not the greatest, but not the worst), the strong smell triggered a migraine, and it initially made my hair very poofy yet soft (by the end of the day, the softness was gone) So, I guess all I have to say about this is, meh...
