I LOVE this shampoo. I've been using it for about a year now and it has worked wonders. It leaves your scalp feeling clean, clears up dandruff and any itching and removes buildup. It's fabulous. I use it once a week to once every 10 days and it takes away that "weighed down" feeling my curls and waves get after a while.

LOVE this stuff!!! If you suffer from dandruff (actual sticky dandruff, not dry scalp) or seborrheic dermatitis, or just get lots of product buildup, this shampoo is for you. It doesn't have the most pleasant smell (it smells like natural ingredients and not perfume though), but it works extremely well to clarify without stripping all the oil out of the hair. I usually use this once a week and follow with Devacurl's No-Poo to re-moisturize (then conditioner), every other wash I use Deva Low-Poo as I need more cleanser than just No-Poo regularly. The African Black Soap shampoo can dry out your hair if you use it frequently, so either pre-poo or follow with a moisturizing shampoo and a good conditioner.

If you want a shampoo that's going to moisturize, then stay away from this one. I like shampoos that are going to remove product and cleanse my scalp and this shampoo is as good as you're going to get without going to sulfates. I love the scent - definitely smells of plantains - and it lathers extremely well. After using this shampoo, I follow with a conditioner and my hair looks and feels great. If you find this too drying, definitely try using a pre-poo or smoothing a little conditioner on your length before shampooing. This is my usual wash day shampoo now.

I use this as a clarifying shampoo about once a month. Works wonders. I pre-poo beforehand with the Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner and coconut oil, about an hour under a plastic shower cap. Then I shampoo then DC with the Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque. Love the feel of my hair afterwards.

SN: I also use this on my face as wash. Love it too.

I'm very happy with how clarifying this shampoo is, I will probably never have to resort to using a sulfate shampoo because of it. It is very effective at removing product build up on my scalp and hair, however like others have said- it is drying! To combat the dryness, I only limit the use of it on problem areas on my scalp (I dont use it on hair below the ears unless theres a spot that feels gunky) and plus I use a moisturizing shampoo right after or I mix it in (SM 10-in-1 Superfruit Shampoo). I also have found that has helped reduce flare ups from my seborrheic dermatitis.

Yes, this product delivers (with some tweaking!!). I use this shampoo on the root of my hair for a few minutes then add the Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention shampoo over all my hair before rinsing. (I follow up with African Black Soap Purification Mask) This has helped me get the scalp benefits without over drying my super thick 3c curls. I use it as a clarifying shampoo about twice a month.

This shampoo totally stripped my hair, letting it feeling dry.... I absolutely love the moisture retention shampoo from the raw Shea butter line, i wanted to love this one but its a no no...

This was honestly awful as a shampoo for my hair. It left my hair feeling like straw. And i dont have ichy scalp, but i do have very dry ichy skin on my legs. Oddly enough, i thought to try it as a body wash and it actually works wonders on my ichyness and leaves my skin feeling moisturized.

I wanted to like this shampoo, and while it left my scalp clean, it left my 4c hair feeling dry, tangled and stripped.

This shampoo made my scalp feel amazing!!! clean, kind of minty, very soothing BUT it made my hair very very dry. And when 4c hair gets dry it shrinks more and tangles more, it had to have a very long detangling session afterward. If you have 4c hair I would suggest putting it in a squeeze applicator bottle and watering it down and limiting it to you scalp and just let it rinse through your hair. My little sister is allergic to propylene glycol (spelled it wrong i'm sure) so this was great for her and doesn't leave her hair as dry as mine.

This shampoo was given to me when I first started my hair journey. It is extremely clarifying but mt hair never felt dry or brittle when I was done. Just clean and fresh. I was not able to detanlge qith this shampoo but once the conditioner ws added my hair was silky clean. It has a fresh ckean scent to me not to mention a little goes a long way. So you will not need to use a lot.

I use this once every 3-4 weeks as a clarifying shampoo, and it keeps my cowash regimen in order! I cowash twice a week, but using this an essential once-in-awhile keeps my hair clean and dandruff-free. I only develop itch, sometimes, at the end of the month when it's time to use this again. I love its smell and consistency. It definitely strips my hair of EVERYTHING, but that's its job. I always follow with a moisturizing or light protein deep conditioning treatment.

This is magic if you have an irritated, itchy or dry scalp. I get away with using it once a week and I love the banana-ish smell it has. During washing my hair does feels dry like a rope but I just follow up with a good conditioner or deep treatment and problem fixed. If you have scalp issue’s I can highly recommend to try out this shampoo, your scalp will thank you for it. I would give it 5 if detangling would have been easier.

I initally bought this product for my daughter who has 3c hair, she also has eczema and itchy scalp occasionally since the bottle says that it is helpful for eczema I thought that I would give it a try (besides I liked the ingredients list).I really wanted to like this product but was disappointed..I tried it out first on myself.I really liked the smell though. It made my hair feel really weird,it felt dried out and not moisturized at all.Since my daughter's scalp was itchy I thought I would try it out on her,I was hoping it would be different for her but it wasn't at all.It did stop the itchiness rather well but it left the ends of her hair feeling really stripped and it just felt odd.Even after I moisturized her hair it still felt that way.Sorry to say,I won't be purchasing this again..I really wanted to like this product, unfortunate.I have found black soap to be really drying on my skin so I don't find this too surprising

I know sulfates in shampoos can be drying to the hair that is close to your scalp, so for years, I have been looking for a non-sulfate shampoo that actually works on "dandruff, eczema, and psoriasis". This one claimed to, so I figured I would give it a try. All the other non-sulfate shampoos I have tried in the past have left tons of buildup on my scalp, but not this one! Yes, it really does work on those conditions. If I have a really bad case of flakes , I may have to use a shampoo with a sulfate once in a while, but for the most part, I can go sulfate free, using this shampoo!

About a year ago my scalp became very dry and irritated. I lived in a place with very hard water which made it even worse. I thought I would try this shampoo out. Initially it helped with the itch but I started getting a lot more flaking. It also left my hair too squeaky clean, felt a bit like straw. Instead I used botanicals moisturizing shampoo which did wonders.

I bought this product a few weeks ago. I was very skeptical because I have tried other black soaps in the past as well as a TON of other products (cheap and expensive) and been allergic every time. Looking at the ingredient list and the exclusion of items normally found in other "run of the mill" shampoos, I decided to give this a whirl. I am glad I did. This is NOTHING like other shampoos. I have to say I do shower every day. I find that no matter what product I use, I have to shampoo 3 times a week and co-wash in between. I use this Shea Moisture shampoo, co-wash with Renpure conditioner (another brand that works well due to no nasty chemicals) and then follow with a very SMALL amount of Organix *light* penetrating argan oil serum making sure not to get it directly on my scalp. Then I let my hair air-dry. Have not had any issues since. Love it. My only regret and the reason for giving it 4 curls and not 5 is because of the size of the bottle compared to the price. Wish it came in a larger bottle!

Love it! Great light banana scent! Cleans with minimal stripping! Lathers for a great low poo! My hair feels so luxurious and remains so juicy and moisturized after use! (Don't forget your Rinse Out) No additives needed:) This is one of the only SheaMoisture products without coconut oil, so my scalp isn't allergic either!!!!

I bought this shampoo for my husband, because he has an itchy, dry, flaky scalp. He really likes it for his scalp - he's pretty cheap, but he opts to continue to purchase this $10 shampoo rather than the $4 shampoo he used to pick up at the drugstore/grocery store. So I see that as a win. He says it reduces the itchiness and dryness of his scalp.

Recently I also decided to use it as a clarifying shampoo. It works pretty well for that, I think! I don't have itchy scalp issues, so I can't speak to that, but this shampoo does remove buildup pretty well (not as well as a sulfate shampoo, but I've stopped using silicones and mineral oil on my hair so it does well enough to remove the natural-only products I use) and leaves my hair clean and fresh-smelling. I am also crazy about the plantain scent.

I really wanted this to be a 5 curls product for me. Removes build up beautifully. I suffer from scalp psoriasis and my hair feels stripped after using this but my scales are only gone about 3 days. I would have to wash my hair at least twice a week in order to lessen the scales on my scalp but I feel it would strip my hair more.

This stuff is a miracle. I suffer from dandruff that I think was brought on by years of relaxing. It would get really bad in the winter, almost embarrassingly so. Normal dandruff shampoos never had any impact, so I purchased this with great skepticism. I used this once and it was like a miracle! I went to get my haircut and my stylist asked me if I was doing something new because my scalp looked so good. The results are cumulative for me, so the more I used it, the longer I could go between washes without flakes. It is a pretty deep cleaner, so I make sure to use it only on my scalp so it doesn't dry my hair. At this point, I use it 1-2x per month and it maintains a clear scalp. I am also a fan of Shea Moisture black african bodywash and bar soap.

I love love LOVE this shampoo! My scalp is extremely itchy (always has been, but no doubt it was intensified by relaxing), and I have tried everything you can think off. This is the only thing that has worked for me so far. It is a deep cleaning cleanser so it definitely leaves your hair feeling stripped but as long as you follow up with a deep conditioner or their balancing conditioner afterwards, you should be fine. I say use only once a month or as needed, definitely not an everyday cleanser.

I like this brand but I must say I am disappointed. I always put my hair in twists after detangling and combing shampoo or conditioner into my hair. Surprisingly I don't have much of a problem detangling my hair (4b) and do it regularly in the shower again just to get any knots out. Once I put this product in after combing through my hair, did the twists, and jumped in the shower to finger detangle some more, my hair started clumping together and not in a curl defining way, as in it started to snag and tangle completely opposite of before I put the shampoo in. My hair also felt funny. It didn't feel moisturized, but a little scratchy and just outright weird. I'm not used to having my hair feel this way and I couldn't attribute it to the fact that I was shampooing. I checked the ingredients on the label there aren't any sulfates to dry my hair out or make it scratchy. The only reason why I'm giving it 3 is because it did wash the product out of my hair, and it didn't do an entirely disastrous job. All in all this shampoo just didn't react with my hair too well so I will be trying something else.

i give it a 3 just because I like the brand but, everything else about it was disappointing. It did nothing for my dry scalp, it lathered too much, it smells weird, and i wish I had kept my reciept to take it back. One of my top worst decisions to buy on the market. Its up there with treseme, Carol's Daughter, Organix, and Pert.

Smells like a banana Laffy Taffy, it doesn't lather like all of their other shampoos, but it does what it claims it will do, so I'm not complaining!!!

I have 2b, fine, med, porosity, protein sensitive hair. I found this product at my local Walgreen's. After reading the reviews here, I thought I'd give it a whirl. Good stuff for sure. My hair felt clean but not stripped. I would definitely recommend it and will absolutely purchase again.

This shampoo has been the only thing to cure my itchy scalp. I will admit it can leave the hair dry if you don't follow with an extremely hydrating conditioner. I use the companion conditioner and then Sojourn Smooth as a leave-in.

I like it. I like it a lot. At first it felt too sticky in my hands to be like "shampoo" but then the lather it created was out of this WORLD, which is funny because it's sulfate free. Nothing else has gotten my scalp feeling less dry while not stripping at the same time. AND it seemed like it removed build up that may have been left over from cones!! (I may be pushing that last one). Regardless, it's amazing for more than 3c hair; I recommend ANYONE with a dry, itchy scalp and dry hair tries it.
