This product is outstanding when used as a leave-in or a rinse out conditioner with Shea Moisture products. I also used it under Jane Carter Solution Incredible Curls and with Design Essential Honey Curlforming Custard with honey and chamomile. Wonderful results!!

I love most of SheaMoisture products. When I first used this, it made my hair flake once my hair dried. One day, I decided to give this product another chance. I was in a hurry and I didn't have time to deep condition my hair. The second time I used those product I loved it! It made my hair super moisturized without weighing my hair down or too greasy and without flaking one dried the next day. I section my hair and used just a dime size and comb through. I use it together with my Cantu Curl Activator Cream. Now that I know how to use this product, I'm definitely going to use it whenever I don't have time too deep condition my hair. If you have 4 type hair, I would suggest using it with your go to leave in conditioner or cream to help with slippage. Don't use too much of it. If you do, it will weigh your hair down and greasy. A little goes a long way.

Hair Type 2a/ 2b. Low Porosity, High Density, Medium Hair.

Detangles well, but it made my hair greasy & unmanageable. This clearly isn't suited for me, so i can't really rate it poorly.

Wow! Smooth, chunky, juicy curls. Moisture, moisture, moisture!! It beats out KCKT any day. SheaMoisture, please make a detangler for EVERY line?! I see lemongrass, coconut hibiscus, fruit infusion...

This is a product that I'm glad I gave a second chance. The first time I used it as a detangler, I was not impressed at all. It did nothing for my tangles. However, after my BC, I decided to give it another try but this time as a moisturizer. This product in conjunction with my curl definer, gives me soft, moisturized, defined curls for a full day and with no crunch. Here it is time that I should Moisturize and Seal for the night, but my hair is still feeling soft, and moisturized from this morning...This Shea Moisture product will definitely be repurchased.

This is the best leave in I have ever used. When looking for a product the first thing I am curious about is the scent. This smells great, it's the same scent as the rest of the shea butter line but it is very light. Personally i think this one smells better. The consistency is not like kckt (an old favorite of mine). This leave in is thick and it doesn't foam in my hair. My hair is very smooth and moisturized after I apply it to my wet hair in the shower. It does leave a greasy feeling on the hands, however it absorbs into my hair very well leaving it extremely soft. My only con for this product is I think the bottle is too small for the price it should have been 12oz. I will continue to buy this product during BOGO sales because it is now my staple leave in.

I've seen a ton of mixed reviews on this product and decided to try it for myself during one of Shea Moisture's many sales. I purchased the newer version that has glycerin as its first ingredient so I'm unable to compare the previous formula. I should also note that, although the label says "detangler" it is not similar to Knot Today; I've seen the comparison a couple of times and the ingredients are not similar and neither is its consistency (maybe its also the similar packaging and price that leads to this comparison). This product is a slam dunk! Traditionally SM products have been a let down for me so I was surprised this worked so well. The texture is thick like a Vaseline or Aquaphor so I apply it to damp (others may prefer soaking wet) hair. Its also so thick that I have to stand the bottle upside down, shake, and squeeze it very hard in order to get it out. Although it says detangler, I wouldn't use this to detangle dry hair. The smell is a light shea buttery, earthy smell and is the same smell featured in the other products in this line; its not very noticeable overall. I, myself, use this as a leave-in (as prescribed in the instructions) after I wash and deep condition my hair and it hydrates and enhances my curls. I'm rather moderate to heavy handed with product because I like to make sure my curls are going to stay hydrated for the week while braving the elements and work outs and get 3 to 4 uses per bottle. I usually pair this with a butter, focusing on my ends, and a gel to top off my "wash-n-go", but this could very well be used on its own. I do get frizz, but this product doesn't claim to eliminate it and I'm comfortable with the amount of frizz I get. I would definitely recommend this product for those with similar hair types. I would also advice those with looser curls or thinner strands that this product will probably be heavy, perhaps even greasy, in your hair. My only critique of this product is the that I wish it was in a larger size and had a pump for convenience. Hope this helped someone!
Stats: Corkscrew, medium density, medium strand thickness, low to medium porosity, 3c

A hit and miss for me. I watched a review on it and immediately went out to by it. When this worked for me it WORKED, my hair was moisturizer and my curls looked so nice and plump, when this didn't work it kind of left my hair feeling dry and frizzy. I think the hit and miss is because of the glycerin which my hair has a bit of a problem with.

since using this product my hair has been EXTREMELY soft. However to use this product your hair must be soaking wet and a little goes a long way (im a bit heavy handed) if u use too much itll be a greasy feeling to your hair. The only reason it 4 curls is because it doesnt detangle well i have thick coarse 4b hair

I love this product line of Shea Moisture. I have had positive experiences with all of the products in this line that I have tried so far and this one was no exception! The slip isn't the greatest for me(YMMV) but is better than most. What sold me on this product was the moisture! My curls are soft, bouncy, and moisturized every time I use this product. My 3c curls are not as frizzy anymore since I have added this product to my regimen. (Living in my part of the midwest frizz is a CONSTANT battle)

This is my JAMMMMMMMM! OMG this is best leave in conditioner ever made...I will never be without it. When I did the big chop I was struggling with dry hair...but with continued use of this leave in...I don't have that issue anymore...I just love it..there aren't enough to words to express my deep love for this product.

Top 3 on my leave in's. This beats Kinky Curly in moisture, my hair is left incredibly soft & tangle free.

Randomly saw this in the store and picked it up. When I saw the ingredients in the back, I had no expectations about its actual detangling ability (which really isn't a worry for me since I detangle WAAAAAY before using this product) but it looked like a really nice leave in so I bought it.

I can't speak for other ladies in the 4s, but this was AMAZING!! It felt nice and soft going into my hair and it helped to melt down the little tangles I had left, great moisturizer and (well, I think it's a) great detangler! Love it. New HG product for me!

I really love this product I have 3B hair. At fist I apply this product on damp hair and was horrible. But the second time I used it in soaking wet hair and was WONDERFULL I looooove it. And Detangle my hair perfectly. I use it when I want more moisture that my Kinky Curly Knot Today give me.

I am surprised at the reviews because I love this product! I was bad to my hair this past winter, coloring it a bunch of times, and this is the product that saved it. Well, this plus deep conditioners, but the conditioners alone were not enough to detangle the parched, porous mess I had. When my hair is healthier, this can double as leave-in and styler for me. Plus I can find it in my local stores, which is always a bonus.

When a product has "detangler" in the name, I usually assume it will have some type of slip, at least if it's targeted towards natural hair. This product doesn't have slip, however the oiliness of the product did make it easier to pull apart tangles and knots, so it's not a detangler in the traditional since, but it does have detangling properties. However, I use this more as a moisturizer than a detangler. This product is pretty oily upon application, however I find that by the next day most of the oiliness is gone. Overall, I enjoy this product. I don't use it often, and many might be turned off by it's lack of slip and oiliness, but it works for me.

It left my hair really greasy, and that is really hard for me because I have really porous hair. My hair usually sucks everything up like a sponge. I just thing that SheaMoisture has really stretched themselves too thin. they need to get focused.

This product is a really great leave in. You have go put it in soaking wrt hair like the instructions say. If you put it in damp hair it can be a little sticky, but goes away when hair dries! The consistency is similar to KCKT, but a little stickier. All in all a great product!! Not too heavy for fine thin hair :)

I purchased this product with high hopes since Shea Moisture is my go-to brand. This product, however, is not one I would not consider to be a "detangler" for 4c hair, or any in the 4 category. My hair felt moisturized with this product, but I still had to reach for my aloe vera gel to assist with the detangling aspect.
