Styling Tips

  • Rinse hair thoroughly.
  • Apply 20-30 pumps -- more for longer and thicker hair -- (10 in the crown, 10 at the nape) of Wen Cleansing Conditioner to your palms and rub together. Apply to your scalp first, massaging vigorously for 1-3 minutes.
  • Add a splash of water. This will create a creamy consistency to work through the hair. Wen has no detergents or sodium laurel sulfate, so it will not lather.
  • Add 10-15 pumps of Wen Cleansing Conditioner through the ends of the hair.
  • Comb Wen Cleansing Conditioner through hair, and leave on at least 3-5 minutes -- the longer the better for maximum conditioning.
  • Rinse thoroughly for 1-2 minutes, massaging scalp and running fingers through to the ends.
  • Repeat if necessary.
  • Without towel drying, while hair is soaking wet, apply 2-4 pumps of Wen Cleansing Conditioner mixed with 2-4 drops of Wen Bath, Body & Hair Oil as a leave-in, twist, push and work into hair thoroughly.
  • Then apply 2-4 pumps of Wen Sweet Almond Mint Styling Crème mixed with 2-4 drops of Wen Bath, Body & Hair Oil. Twist, push and work into hair thoroughly. Applying while hair is wet will evenly distribute into the hair and eliminate frizz.
  • Style as desired, or let hair dry naturally and completely.
  • Finish with Wen Sweet Almond Mint Texture Balm. Apply 4-8 strokes on palm and rub hands together to emulsify. Scrunch into hair.
  • Note: In this case, more Wen Cleansing Conditioner is better than not using enough. Because Wen eliminates the need to use conventional shampoo and conditioner, enough Wen Cleansing Conditioner is needed to break down the dirt and oil in the hair AND hydrate and nourish the scalp and ends of the hair.If hair can handle or requires more moisture, mix in Wen Bath, Body & Hair Oil with the Wen Cleansing Conditioner as a leave-in.

I am very pleased with this product. I do agree that it's pricey, but combining cleaning and conditioning in one, makes it worth it to me. PLUS, I love how soft my hair feels! It doesn't weigh my fine hair down either. I have plenty of bounce! I will repurchase this when I run out!

I'm 3b, coarse, low-porosity, desert climate. Wen Cleansing Conditioner is not "news", but I have to say I completely understand why this product created near hysteria when it first came out. I used to dread...I mean DREAD...washing my hair. The tangles, scalp sores, frizz...After all that, trying something that cleans and detangles in one step is shocking. I have yet to find another product that I can use as a rinse-out cleanser AND conditioner. Even with "No-Poo" I need to use One Condition afterwards for detangling and removing residue. One of the things that kept me from using Wen regularly is that the Sweet Almond Mint was the only one that smelled okay to me. (Back then the others were Lavender, Tea Tree, and Cucumber. I was repulsed by both the Tea Tree and the Cucumber, and overall I'm not crazy about the scent of lavender). It was frustrating to have something that detangled and softened so beautifully but smelled unpleasant! Thankfully Wen now offers other fragrances (I'm in love with the Coconut Lime Verbena), so I can enjoy my soft hair and it smells really beautiful. I have to admit, all the negative publicity regarding Wen and hair loss makes me a little nervous (of course, the internet is overloaded with the exact same accusations toward LUSH, Ojon, KMS, Nexxus, PHYTO, Pureology, Devacurl, Pantene, Garnier, "dry" shampoos, hair coloring's enough to drive anyone nuts. But in my experience using Wen, my hair finally grew longer and fuller, because it stopped breaking. I also use argan oil and lots of coconut oil!

I started using this product when I first decided to take the plunge and go all natural because my months of straightening had caused so much heat damage that my hair wasn't curling the same anymore. I have been using Wen for almost 2 years now, washing with cold water and I honestly believe it saved my curls! I am now loving my gorgeous 3B curls and took an oath to never again use heat on my hair.

I have tried Wen for 2 years. I love the softness it adds to my hair. However, I cannot use it exclusively because my roots get very oily and my curls become weighed down. My hair in general lays flatter. I also don't like the silicone in it. It is not water soluble. I'm surprised there is a cone in there. If there wasn't I would continue to use it. We all know cones build up on your hair and if you use this exclusively it builds up bad. For me, it doesn't cleanse very well. It's a good conditioner but not Curly Girl approved. I sold what I had left.

I love, love, love, this cleanser! I have coarse dry hair and it just drinks in this wonderful cleanser. I no longer have course dry hair, my hair for the first time in my life is silky smooth! My curls are more organized and way less frizzy, and on day 2 or 3, I can wear it naturally with a natural gentle wave. THIS LINE HAS TOTALLY CHANGED MY HAIR! As long as I can afford it I am using it.

Nice powdery almond-mint scent. This cleanser is not moisturizing enough for my hair, and it does not detangle. I need a LOT of it to feel like my hair is thoroughly cleansed. This is a good product, with high quality ingredients, but the Almond-Mint seems to be the wrong formula for my coarse, dry hair.

Be careful curly girls this has dimethicone in it, I purchased without full inspection of the ingredients. in the trash it went.dimethicone is just as damaging to curly hair as sulfates.

I absolutely LOVE this. It can be used as a co-wash and leave-in. It has great slip for my 3c hair. Great detangler. However, it's way too expensive. If you have thick hair and wash twice then use it as a leave-in too, half the bottle is gone in one use. Not enough product for the cost. Same reason I stopped using CD's Hair Milk Co-Wash. 8.5oz for 16 bucks. That's too much money for most of the bottle to be gone in one use. Both work wonderfully but the price and amount of product is what made me stop buying it.

I have been using Wen for the last 2 years and I love it! I have waist length hair and part of that has to do with Wen. It smells amazing, gently cleanses, moisturizes and leaves great volume. It's also a great leave-in conditioner. The only con is that its expensive and for it to work you have to use a lot of it. When you have really long hair like me... it goes quick... but I don't care. I love it so much. To me its worth the money.

I have waist-length, fine thick 2b hair that is prone to frizz. After many years of fighting the curl, I read a curly girl book which inspired me to love and encourage the curl and introduced me to cowashing. Unfortunately, using regular conditioner didn't work so good for me, because my hair easily goes flat and greasy. I saw a Wen commercial and was so excited - it made sense! So I got a little bottle of Wen Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner. It works well and smells okay (though I'm not a big fan of mint) but you have to use a lot and damn, it is expensive: $32.00 for 16 oz. Who can afford that? Not me! Fortunately, I did some research and found that there are other great cowashes out there, my favorite being As I Am Coconut Cowash (8.00 for 16 oz) which smells wonderful and works even better then then Wen on my hair. (My husband was shocked that I thought the cheaper product was infinitely preferable lol) Cowash is wonderful stuff! My curls have been softer, more moisturized, and more pronounced since I started cowashing. I have also found that by not stripping the moisture from my hair by shampooing, my hair doesn't need to be washed nearly so often and it feels nicer -soft to the roots and never as greasy. Curly girls who have 2abc curls especially should check out a cowash that will gently clean hair without weighing it down.

In summary: Wen is a good product, but there are other options out there which may work better and don't make as big a dent in your wallet.

This product had an infomercial on every one of my favorite channels and after watching hours and hours of the Wen Girls with their bouncy hair I decided to buy it. I've been natural for about a year and I thought it's be interesting to try a cleansing conditioner instead of just co-washing, so I bought the 30 day trial kit. The consistency of this product is wonderful and when you put it in your hair it feels very soft and silky as it's running down the stands of my hair, and as I left it in under my shower cap the minty feeling felt wonderful - up to this point the product does exactly what it says in the commercials. When my hair began to dry I noted that it remained as frizzy as before I used Wen, and I thought well it's the first time. I continued to use it, my dry time was cut by like 20 minutes so I guess that was a good thing? The problem is, my hair was still very frizzy and the curls weren't as defined. I never put anything in my hair, the infomercial says you don't have to, that Wen replaces all the other styling products - not really. I think I only had one amazingly good hair day where my curls were NOT frizzy, were perfectly defined, and I had just the RIGHT amount of volume... too bad I went golfing that day and the wind blew it all up :[ Long story short I didn't feel this product completely fulfilled all it's promises, especially the one where it says it's all natural - it's not. I liked some stuff, but it's WAAAAAYYYYY too EXPENSIVE for me to even consider buying it again when I didn't get what I wanted.

I have shoulder length 3c/4a hair and I really like this product as a cleansing conditioner. I use this for my co-wash and sometimes I will use a little as a leave-in conditioner. As for the styling tips, I use no more than 10 pumps for my whole head and then add just a few splashes of water. The product becomes really creamy and I let it sit while I finish my shower and then rinse it out once I am all done. If I use it as a leave-in, I add about another 3-5 pumps and it does leave my hair feeling moisturized and the mint leaves a nice tingle sensation on my scalp. I gave this 4 stars because at 16oz, the price is $32, while other $32 cleansing conditioners are twice that size. Also, I use so much at one time that it is not necessarily that cost effective. Another thing, for some, the smell might be too overbearing and might be too much to bear for sensitive skin. All in all, this is a good product that does what it claims but it's not that cost efficient. This could never be my sole cleanser (I like to shampoo every 7-10 days) because I like having squeaky clean hair to work with every now and then.

I've been co-washing for years and I love Wen, I still use my Aveda products now and then but you can tell when I'm out of Wen. It is a much richer conditioner that tunes my friz down. My curls are much smoother even if I just wash and go with no other products/sealing/anything used.
Even with as much thick hair as I have I don't use nearly the amount directed. Sectioning out my wet hair caused me to have to use much less ( apparently I've just been wasting product for years). But I do use one extra squirt on my rung out ends before running out the door.
Glad to see it here, because its a hassle to reorder if you don't want the whole starter kit again. Even though that stick promade is pretty good too. And smells just as nice.

Not a extremely thicker but noticable thicker. My hair is shine and feels so soft. No matter what i try on my hair i always keep a bottle of WEN in my shower and i always go back to it. I love it!!!!!!

This is just an over priced co-wash. It might seem like a miracle for those new to cowashing (suave coconut seemed like a miracle to me when I first started) but in the end, any CG friendly conditioner can perform as well or better for a fraction of the cost. If you're thinking about trying this, read about the CG method and try some cheaper alternatives first.

4b-c. I have been using wen about 6 months. I buy the gal size from shopping channel that's only offered once a year. I use fig and I would not trade this product for any other and lord knows I have a basket full of product that I don't use. To be able to comb thru my hair when wet with ease is worth the money I spend on the product. I suggest give up something like coffee everyday or anything to try this product. It is the best product on the market.

This is another staple of mine. I wash my hair twice per week with Wen, and I use about 1/2 a pump as a leave in conditioner. I smells divine and makes my hair so soft. I have tried many sulfate free shampoos and nothing compares to Wen.

Wonderful product, there is nothing out there that compares, and I've tried everything. My fairly long, fine, normal porosity/density/elasticity, color treated (red), dry hair hasn't been in this good of condition in over 20 years. I don't use the recommended amount of product; I use 2 pumps for the crown, nape and 2 sides; then 1 pumps as a leave-in, and only wash twice a week so the product lasts a long time. My hair is soft, shiny, full of body, and my red hair color isn't fading nearly as quickly as with other products. This is a truly life changing product for me, I hope they never stop making it.

I tried Wen Sweet Almond Mint from a friend. I felt like my hair was moisturized really well, but then it hung a little limp from it. The bottle suggests smoothing a little bit through as a leave-in product, but it didn't do anything to define my curls. It's not for me.

I decided to try WEN to see what the fuss was about. The smell is lovely (I purchased the Sweet Almond Mint) and it did make my hair feel very soft; however, I've decided not to purchase it again simply due to the fact after owning it for 1 week I have used 3/4 of the bottle. I used the amount per the directions and only co-washed with it 2-3 times a week. I used 1-3 pumps as a leave in in the morning and at night after I rinsed out my hair for the night. Even if I used 1/2 the recommended amounts a bottle would have lasted me maybe 2 1/2 weeks. I really can not justify paying $40 for a product that doesn't last that long. I also found the scent has diminished and it's not as strong as it was when I first opened the bottle. Would I recommend this? Sure, it's worth trying, you never know it may just be the product you've been searching for, but for me, my quest continues....

I have fine 3bish color treated hair. I just ordered this product and used it for the first time this morning. I have to say it is not what I expected in a good way. This beats any cleansing conditioner that I have used in the past. It actually made my scalp feel clean and gave me root volume that I was lacking. It also made my hair very soft. The smell is nice and minty but not in an overpowering way that I was waiting for. I am sold on this product and can't see myself using anything else as a cleansing agent.

I love love love this product. This is the Goldilocks of cleansers. Some thicker no-poos would weigh down my hair, some sulfate free latherers would dry it out. This one is JUST RIGHT. I love the tingly sensation from it as I normally have a itchy scalp and this seems to relieve it. This is my cleanser, my conditioner, and my leave in. Sometime is my hair is really dirty I will need a second wash, but overall I couldn't be happier.

I'm glad to see all the great ratings. I ordered Wen in January. At first I had mix feelings. However, it takes a while getting used to but this is not an every day product to use on your hair.

I've been blowdrying the front and setting the back with curly waves. Its been looking beautiful. The style does last for a couple of days.

You can really tell the difference with other conditioners.

The only thing that set me back as well was that they jipped me with the automatic delivery and I didn't want it. I'm gonna order it from here.

I absolutely LOVE this junk. The only problem I have is the price. I know it's got a cone listed on the ingredients list, but most posts on this site concur that it's water soluble at least... at first I didn't like this product, but I went back to it and find that it works really well (probably because of all the cones I'd been using.) I like this scent the best of all the WEN products; however, the Fig formula may be a bit more moisturizing. But the Almond Mint smells the best, and totally eliminates the need for shampoo, conditioner, and deep conditioner. My 3C hair loves to bathe in this stuff (very moisturizing without being greasy), but my wallet would probably not agree. If you have the patience, this has the potential for being a very good detangler.

This stuff rocks! I have been waiting to write this review so I could test it out over the past 45 days. I love this cleansing conditioner, and the minty tingle on my scalp! I am so glad I can buy it from the CurlMart instead of through the Wen website, where I've heard bad things about their customer service. I've been using this product regularly (washing every 3 days), along with Deva B'Leave In, and Phyto Defrisant. I bought an Aquis towel, and use that to plop my hair. My curls have never been so soft, defined, and not frizzy! I am very happy and will keep buying this, even though it is a bit expensive.

Been staggering Lavender, Cucumber, and Almond Mint over the past 4 months for my fine curly with a frizz locks and could not be happier with the outcome. I've replaced numerous other products with just this rinse. Oily frizz-free products are GONE. Volumizers are OUTTA HERE. Sticky curl definers are HISTORY. I finally have totally soft and volumed frizz free (or frizz reduced depending on the weather) curls with just this product. I've got I think what they call 3B hair in the curly hair websites. Fine Hebrew hair curl with a layer of frizz floating on top. And after it's slept on and needs to be afro picked due to the knots it turns into solid wavy frizz (a la Roseanna Havanadanna on the old Saturday Night Live.). I've never seen a model with my type hair on the infomercials. The closest is African American hair...which isn't really close at all other than I do have medium to large corkscrews going on with my cowlicks. The most important thing is to add one half to one full pump of the cleanser AFTER you've washed and rinsed. Wet your head thoroughly at the end of your shower and add the last pump. Comb through and LEAVE IT IN. That way you will have volumed, defined curls. Then scrunch semi dry with numerous paper towels and let air dry. I have some straight areas on top of my head, so I scrunch up a few of those areas and add some one inch butterfly clips around the crown to volumize and define the curl there even further while drying. I don't like what the diffuser does..and would rather air dry. You can wash with one scent and leave in a pump of another. So far I prefer that the Cucumber be the final leave in pump. The Almond Mint tends to be a bit more drying..but it is important to clean a bit more every few washes, anyway. But definitely don't use Almond Mint as the final leave in. Also, I recently tried my husband's Tea Tee. It is also drying with my type of hair, but I added the Cucumber as final leave in and I really did love the Gloria Stivic (All In The Family) head of bouncy curls I got from that combo. Will also start working that scent in every three or four times. One thing to note. I wash every two days. After the third wash-or about every eight days-I do need to use a regular sudsing product (I use Aveda's "Brilliant") as my scalp tends to get too oily. But I'm really happy going from suds every other day to every eight days. I used to lose quite a lot of hair when using sudsing products. Hair loss has reduced greatly with WEN.

I love this stuff! I am at the gym very early in the morning and have a very limited time to work out and then shower and get ready for work. Because this does not foam it is easy to rinse out- it leaves my 3a curls in the best shape. I dry with a diffuser and walk out of the locker room with the other ladies envious of my curls!

Fantastic product! I had blond, highlighted hair until last weekend (now it's red!) so I was able to try this before and after coloring and before and after being shampooed at the salon. My curls have NEVER looked or felt better. Friends keep telling me my hair looks amazing. I'll definitely keep using this and am excited to try the other types.

This made my hair soft and touchable, but frizzed like nobody's business. It did clean fairly well, but for me, it was not worth the hefty price tag.

Like this as much as the Fig, if not more. Even after a oil-based overnight DT, WEN thoroughly cleans my hair without stripping. Even though it contains a cone, for some reason I never, ever get build up! No rinseout/detangly conditioner is needed; I can wash, condition, and detangle in one cycle. Very nice!

A great, curl-enhancing conditioner! I use as a leave-in (my curls love shampoo, gasp!) - poo, conditioner, rinse out, 1-2 pumps combed through wet, wrap 10 seconds in towel, pea-sized conditioner added to Paul Mitchell's Super Clean Sculpting Gel. Air dried or diffuse with a hot travel dryer, my curls haven't looked this consistently good in years. I even like it better than Paul Mitchell's original leave-in, before they changed the formula.

This was the best for me of the Wen Cleansing Conditioners. I got piecey-clumpy curls from it. I still got more frizz than I'd like so that by the end of the day, my curls were "frizzy tubes," but it didn't weigh down my curls and boosted my waves. The menthol also irritated my scalp some, and the vapors made my eyes sting in the shower.

This is an amazing cleanser. It's great for no-pooing. Smells wonderful. My hair felt really soft.
