Staff Picks
We asked some of our staff to share their hair regimens, favorite prouducts they use to keep their coils, curls and waves looking fabulous. Everyone agreed on three common hair care tips regardless of hair type:
1. Keep it Simple
Find a good hair care regimen and stick with it. Avoid spending too much time styling your hair with simple wash-and-go styles and a routine and products that provide consistent results.
2. Co-Wash or Clarify
Using products every day can cause buildup and prevent your favorite products from doing their job. Take a break from your normal washing routine and co-wash or remove product buildup with a clarifying shampoo or conditioner.
3. Moisturize
Moisture is the key to healthy, frizz-free hair regardless of the weather. Choose conditioners and creams that lock-in moisture without adding extra weight to your hair.

I detangle with Kinky Curly Knot Today section by section, apply Karen’s Body Beautiful Sweet Ambrosia and blow dry my hair out for more length. Lastly, I two-strand twist my hair using either Miss Jessie’s Curly Buttercreme or Baby Buttercreme and Oyin Handmade Whipped Pudding. I do this routine every 4 weeks and usually co-wash once a week since I workout often.

I co-wash 1-3 times a week and detangle and moisturize with lots of Curl Junkie Curl Rehab and a Denman D3 brush. I air dry, and in the morning, spray a bit of Oyin Juices and Berries and glaze over my hair with a bit of one of my moisturizing conditioners to wake up my curls. I cleanse once a week or once every 2 weeks with MyYHoneyChild Banana Creme Scalp Cleanser.

My hair philosophy: Keep. It. Simple. I am the queen of wash-and-gos because they allow me to wash, condition, apply products and GO. If you start with healthy, well-conditioned hair, the key to a good wash-and-go is the styling product. My favorites are 3-in-1 stylers that act as a leave in, styler and sealer all in one!

I live in Texas, so my biggest problem with my hair is battling humidity — can you say FRIZZ! I focus on sulfate free and heavy moisturizing products. I don't like crunchy curls, so I use products that will keep my curls in place without the crunch. I love my curls, but I want minimal effort with a maximum return, so I’m all about the wash and go. Scent isn't a high priority for me, but I love the peppermint scent from Deva products.

I would be lost without Curl Junkie Curl Rehab Moisturizing Hair Treatment. All my stylers work so much better when I use this. I use it as a daily conditioner, and my curls are so thankful! I also can’t live without conditioners. I use them daily for co-washing, conditioning and for shaving my legs. I keep three levels of conditioners in my shower available at all times.

I have to clarify at least once a week due to how much I work out and how thin my hair is. If I use products with a lot of silicones, I have to clarify every other day. When I don’t use Elucence Clarifying, I wash with DevaCare Low-Poo or co-wash with One Condition. DevaCurl AnGEL gives me great second day hair almost every time if I pineapple with it.
